Well it has been a hell of a ride, a flash in the pan perhaps to some of you longer lived characters.

I had a blast. This is EXACTLY what I needed to do for myself. In 5 long years here, 39 pinns later, I have my first condeath. YAY!

I have never been ganged so hard on any character, hehe, and I gotta say it can suck at times. On the other hand I take it as a compliment, even a testament to my ability. Many times I triumphed against outnumbering odds and nothing feels better than sitting there with two or three enemies behind bars.

If anyone is curious to Laences backstory I can share a little bit of it with you. Laence was a seer, he had visions of the future and they were a blessing and a curse for him. He was sent to live among other oracles who endeavored to hone his powers and use them constructively. There was much prayer and worship that went along with that and Laence did not like any of it. He eventually ran away from the oracles and found a life dedicated to Order and Peace. Ironically he spent the rest of his life at war. This is why Laence was an atheist, he believed the Gods were responsible for most of the chaos and violence in the world. He was also an alcoholic because the booze helped him to avoid unwanted visions when he was attending to his duties. I did not get a chance to really unfold his RP as I was almost always PKing. Thanks to those who did not have a violent relationship with Laence, I did enjoy rping here and there when I could.

I had an idea for a next project, but I am unsure if I will go with it or make something else. But one way or another I will be back with my next character soon enough and I think I am ready to try ruthless again.

Excellent character... Amazing heart! There was a point there or two that I was like... he keeps coming back? Really? Man! Making me work for every ounce of it. Awesome, awesome job and major kudos man. Although we did not see eye-to-eye in game, it was an honor to be your enemy.

Well man, great job. You are a great personality and a player. Laence truly deserved his title. Balls to the wall 90% of the time fighting multiple opponents. Sometimes I disliked the fact that you played so recklessly and I've told it to you multiple times, but I guess that's your charm.

And since you were so kind in your farewell thread, I would like to use the second part of my post to express a small gripe directed at the many people who admittedly ganged Laence left and right. I won't go into details, you know who you are. Watching so many people go after a moderate character together, so many times, really puts me off. Big time. We used to have some unwritten code of honor in the past. If you know a character is fighting someone else you try to stand aside from their fight unless he attacks you. Especially when the character in question is under equipped. Nowadays I can see so many people ganging up on a single opponent it's getting really sad. Watching a moderate tier character fight two decked Trusteds and an Elder at the same time (who also have life insurances up) is really sad. And he still managed to capture most of those.

I would just like to say something to those people - remember that you ganged up on a blue tier h-elf melee ninja. Enough said.

Liadon cared for Laence dearly, she didn't understand him very well but she knew there was something about him that she could both trust and enjoy being around.

Once she finds out about his death she will be trying her best to get a memorial created for him.

as she would say, "He was the reason I felt safe in the city..."

I am hoping that maybe some of my former in game enemies will be stricken with boredom now that I am gone and maybe that will make people realize it's not always a good thing you conkill your foes so fast

And yes, I was reckless a lot of the time and I could have easily kept Laence going for a lot longer. I chose to play him the way he felt to me RP wise, kinda like a Spartan (never retreat, never surrender). Even when I knew he had few lives left I chose not to change the way he played. On the plus side I can say that I always logged out on my terms and that felt good.

Secondly, who, again, decided to spread the rumor that blue PK's are newbies? Mister E is FAR from a newbie. He's playing a blue PK because he's tired of getting full looted and doesn't want to spend time equipping. It doesn't mean he's a newb and it definitely does NOT mean that he's not going to be pimp.

I have no ill will towards anyone I interacted with in game, almost all my memories are fond ones.

I don't wanna see this thread locked before everyone who wants to say something about Laence has had his or her chance.

And I do agree with Jibber, moderate tier characters should get the same treatment as ruthless ones. They are slightly less powerful but have other balancing perks (like never falling as hard). They truly are not a newbie tier at all.

As a moderate you cannot achieve the same god suits that ruthless can so in some situations you will be at a disadvantage. However, my last two pinns have been moderate rogues and I felt very able to compete, even against decked ruthless characters. I have only played as a thief and ninja so I cannot speak for moderate melees, casters, or communers. I really like not losing my supplies when I am killed, that is the #1 bonus IMO.

There are some very good non rares out there. Were I not moderate I'd never have found them.

Cabal eq counts as rare when worn, and it often got looted.

I only implied that playing a blue tier = gimped due to EQ restrictions.

Do Ruthless characters have higher potential for power? Absolutely.

Can a Moderate compete in FL anyway and still do well? Absolutely.

You also have to define what it means to be "gimped" before everyone votes yay or nay on moderates. I think every person has their own interpretation of "gimped".
