It's funny how often in the 21st century headlines include witches and pirates. Only a hop skip and a jump away from living a real life fantasy novel lol.

Two weeks ago most of the Western world celebrated the virgin birth of a god-man who came back from the dead, telling their children tales of a fat magic man who lives at the North Pole and distributes toys to kids once a year.

Witches only sound funny because it's superstition you're not used to.

actually what I find funny is this.

Their government sees that they have an income, even if its only 7-10 dollars a consultation. Their government dictates then that they must pay taxes on this income. Yet, this group of people sees the taxation not as proof that they have a job, but proof that their magic is real. By this logic, the fact that paranormal investigators can charge money for their services proves the existance of ghosts.

Many of you have read the Sword of Truth, I see this as a grand manipulation, and an Ideal use of the Wizard's First Rule.

:D

Yet' date=' this group of people sees the taxation not as proof that they have a job, but proof that their magic is real.[/quote']

The only blurb in the article that I can see as supporting this at all is the quote at the end of "It means that our magic gifts are recognized and I can open my own practice." I wish her wording (or rather, the translation of her wording) was more specific here... it's hard to tell exactly what she means in relation to your statement. However, the rest of the quotes, including the one from this woman's sister, all deal explicitly with being glad/angry for official recognition of their beliefs/activities.

At best, you've got one woman who might think that this means that the govt. agrees that their magic is real... and considering other parts of the article, such as "President Traian Basescu and his aides have been known to wear purple on certain days, supposedly to ward off evil.", she may very well be right. ;) Magical thinking is pretty common, and hardly limited to Romanian witches.
