Mali
Hey Atticus, maybe you'll understand this better? Ninja-hunters aren't pursuing random members of the ninja army or of the collective ninja machine. Rather, they pursue those with reputations of infamy, ninja guards, top level ninja and planners, ninja officers.
Atticus
dude- i get it, but if the ninja hunters go about it in such a manner, the "ninja-collective machine" still has the main parts to function correct? are there still ninja hunters? how much of the once ninja regime still prowl about with anti-semitist intent? and I dont believe this is all just about ninja-hunting, or ninja hunters, or ninja for that matter... there still is some deep unrest in the hearts and minds of good folk- overwhelmed with doubt, and fear that the ninja shall again plan the genocide. man, put a ninja in a sentence and you will have me on the fourms for hours. Pali
That is beyond my ability to answer' date=' and is dependent on context on a case by case basis. I imagine the answer is at times yes and at times no [/quote'] Then could the answer not also be at times yes and at times no when the individual is a victim of cultural conditioning that, while far less traumatic for the individual to go through, is still extremely effective at achieving the same results (such as, oh, military training, or growing up in Germany during its massive depressions in the 1920s and 30s, etc.)? Imoutgoodbye
I would muse it's a few things: A) My generalization of the topic (being unable to provide any facts/cases/etc...to back myself up as I am not in-depth nor an authority on this, merely musing amongst human nature, which, I agree with Mali, it's quite base on my part, but does not go beyond the realm of possibility....sometimes exploring the darker side of life is fun to me) It's a sensitive topic with an unpopular view brought into play or C) The general stripping down of the human psyche/morality. Croyvern
Wow. Ok on topic. Don't ask don't tell, its not just for alternatives anymore. I have a thyroid disorder(from my grandmother's side) that causes a multitude of issues that just happen to match an equally large number of symtms for other rare diseases. My hands shake regularly, some quack doctor told my grandmother she had Parkinsons and treated her for it for 20 years, he was wrong. My BMI is so far below the scale that every doctor I meet acuses me of having Celiac Sprue. They too are wrong. My heart beats about 50 times a minute relaxed, and steps up to 90 when I stress it, some doctors have told me this is a problem. Obviously they are not in to sports medicine. Or they would know they are wrong. An eye doctor told me my right eye was weaker then my left, but I am a crackshot with a pistol or rifle whether shooting right or left handed. So I got a second opinion, turns out my right eye has 20/20 vision, and my left eye just happens to be better than 20/20. The point is, NEVER trust that the first doctor you see knows the answer. Furthermore, never tell the second doctor what the first doctor thought, you will only inspire his answer. Second opinions are crucial. When the military asks, do you have any chronic health issues, you answer "Not that I am aware of." I have cancer, and I get a letter from all five branches of the military atleast once a month. Like I want to go play in the desert sands again.
Pali
When the military asks' date=' do you have any chronic health issues, you answer "Not that I am aware of."[/quote'] While I agree entirely with the utility of obtaining second (or third or tenth) opinions for complex medical conditions... I cannot say that I support the quoted behavior at all. That's just irresponsible and dishonest.
Croyvern
If your a marine, your a meat shield. Will some disease make you less of a meat shield, probably not. I say if you want to sign up to give your life for duty, then its silly to deny you because of an illness. I can tell you, from history, that if the selective service calls for a draft, they will not care if your in good health. My uncle was born with half a left foot and the sent him to Nam. Its total BS! If they want warm bodies, everyones welcome. I say let the scales find balance. Call it dishonest, who cares, I call it fair. KRins
Oh it might be "fair" in your mind...but in a judge's mind it is a crime... something to be avoided in my book.
Croyvern
Oh it might be "fair" in your mind...but in a judge's mind it is a crime... something to be avoided in my book. I have a letter from the US army that says I can not be drafted. I sued the army in 1990. They sent me a draft letter in the mail. Not so uncommon, many of my friends recieved them too. However, I had documentation from a recruiter that stated that a GED without 15 credit hours of college would not qualify me for the Army. I tried to enlist and was denied because "I lacked the educational requirements." So I hired my uncle and we sued. If I am too stupid to serve my country by choice on Monday, then I am underqualified for the same reasons on Thursday when you they decide too many young men are dying too fast. For those of you who are curious, we won. I have a rejection letter from the selective service dept. I was officially undraftable, atleast until I went to college.... I know somewhere some fellow has my name at the top of his list. I will probably be 60+ and they will suddenly reinstate the draft and pick me just because they can. KRins
My point was that at the bottom of all job applications is that little "this statement is true to the best of my knowledge..." clause. In it is says it is a CRIME to knowingly lie or omit anything on an application. I'm willing to bet dollars to dime sacks that the US army has a similar clause on the bottom of their contracts. Imoutgoodbye
The so-called "dishonesty" of it all is a LIE! MEPS is created to keep people out. They'll stretch the truth to GIVE you an illness. Now, you say, that's their job. Go talk to any recruiter. I will guarantee, GUARANTEE, you that AT LEAST 90% of them are helping their recruits flush their systems of drugs before they head in for the tests at MEPS. 90% of them will tell their recruits to not admit to any medical issues at all in the room with the questionnaire on health. (this is from my four personal trips to MEPS and talking with my friends; all of us had experiences with Army and Marine recruiters) You want to hear an example of BS disqualifications? I was waiting for my recruiter to pick me up from MEPS and there was a girl crying in the waiting room. She had wanted to get into the Navy and she was complaining to another girl in the cafeteria about how she needed something for her headache. One of the doctors happened to be in there, heard it, and immediately diagnosed her with chronic migraines and DQed her on the spot. EDIT: No, on the contracts. They'd have to prove you had the illness before you entered and that's difficult with all your "inoculations" you get before basic training. Worst you get is a medical discharge and told to go home. Croyvern
My point was that I am Proud to be a Hippie! F' em if they can't take a joke. I have had my share of grief from the armed forces. Between my friends and family I have seen great men die, and good men "dishonored". I support the troops, but rarely do I agree with what our Government is doing with them. I can say that because I am not in the military and it will not cost me my job under the current administration.
Pali
If your a marine' date=' your a meat shield. Will some disease make you less of a meat shield, probably not.[/quote'] Depends on the disease. And it's not just YOUR life you are risking by knowingly hiding your medical conditions (the dishonesty part), it is the lives of your fellow soldiers (the irresponsible part). Valek may be right that a lot of recruiters will say the same thing that you are, but if you ask me, all those recruiters need their asses fired. I find it pathetic that you endorse lying to enter an organization with the motto of Semper Fidelis - Always Faithful.
