Dragon Age Redemption

If all you played of DA:O was the demo, I can understand the lack of appreciation. The game's greatest strength is its depth of story and characters (and in this case it closely rivals Mass Effect, though I would say ME1 has a more epic main story and ME2 has better characters), and those take a while to shine brighter than the usual fantasy-RPG fare and are hard to truly showcase in a demo.

I've played the DA2 demo and honestly I don't see what the hype is about. The change to a more "action" orient combat system is not novel and it started to turn into button mashing after 5 minutes. Did not see the "strategy" in this new combat system. Also bioware failed to correct one problem they were hoping to fix...the OP'ness of the mage class. In the demo I played a two handed warrior which was decent...however when I switched to my characters sister who was the mage I pretty much obliterated everything. The problem in origins was that the other classes were not on par with the mage class. On the flip side it seems the story element was good. I also don't like how you have a preset character and background....

All in all I think I will give this one a pass and wait for demon souls 2 (dark souls)

*shrugs* I enjoyed the faster pace to it... and if it's too easy, that's what higher difficulty levels are for. It'll play a bit differently on PC also, which is what I'm likely to get it on.

And honestly, I've long been of the opinion that mages in video games aren't powerful enough - if magic were a real thing, if someone could literally conjure balls of fire and icicles to stab you in the face with a word, you would not have a chance in a stand up fight no matter how good you are with a sword.

I loved the Mage class in DA:O at least the tiny bit of it I played, finally a mage that could kind of solo things, instead of falling over because the spell didn't do enough damage to the unarmed peasant......

Advice of the Day: When being obliterated by spells, buy a banshee's veil, or possibly a Force of Nature. :D

Edit: Wait, wrong game, yeah, but IMO it's like zombies over-running the military of the world, (In EVERY movie at least to an extent) I just don't see it. Cruise missile > Zombie.

Sure mages deserve to be offensively supperior. But when you have a near limitness manapool and tons of the diablo like mana potions, your defense is almost as good as a warrior things get boring really fast.

better than a warrior. heh.

You can actually solo the major dragon bosses.

Personally I played it twice through though, you have to unlock arcane warrior and blood mage. So first play through was a regular mage, WAY different. Using party tactics and such, second play though..

I always liked how I would be this glowing white figure, immobilizing entire rooms and just one two killing everything.

Like I said, that's what higher difficulties are for. ;)

And I have to again second Kyzarius's love of the arcane warrior/blood mage combo... that was insane. Strongest enemies in the game chipping away at your 300-ish hp by hitting you for 5 hp at a time (the 1 out of 4 times that they hit you)... I loved that.

I think it's just an aesthetic preference... there are certainly times within a game where I very much enjoy being way stronger than most enemies. One of my favorite moments in the KOTOR series was in KOTOR 2, striding through one of the last levels as my Sith Master taking my time to crush people individually rather than using area powers simply because I could. The trick is finding the balance of both making the player feel like a bad@$$ without making the game too easy... I felt like DA:O on the harder difficulties managed that well enough.

Pfft, carries don't need MR, they need more bloodthirsters.

So you are one of the ones I hate...the ones that instantly lock a carry without any actual ability to carry much of anything...a tune or water in a bucket is well out of the question.

I'm about 15 hours into Dragon Age 2, and very much enjoying it. My biggest gripe thus far is that the story simply isn't as epic as the first game's, at least not so far. It's still well written, and the characters are great, but you don't start out feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders the way you did in DA:O.

EDIT: Again, however, I am still having a blast playing it. Combat's a ton of fun - I really like how they reworked things, and I really enjoy how a lot of enemies die very fast (contrary to expectations), giving you the feeling that you and your team mates are freaking badasses while maintaining stronger enemies that require focus and the large groups require tactical awareness.

I only dislike the ones that fulfill the stereotype, Pali. YOU are quite possibly the first, last, and only stoner I will ever like. However, if you offer it to me, bad things might happen. ;)

EDIT: By bad things I mean I will sell you into slavery to Koch and he will in turn let Scott Walker have you for a play toy...*whistles innocently* Not that I'm insinuating anything about Tea Bag..err....Tea Party Republicans having any closet fetishes for mustard loving stoners....

Valek! You told me you liked me, so I guess your statement is now untrue.
