KRins
It seems like everyone thinks I should be a moderate... and while I disagree because I lose even when my eq is totally unrestricted... I am curious what sort of classes you would suggest to someone looking into moderate? I am almost strictly some version of melee player in the past with one fairly forgettable experience as an invoker temporum, but it seems that without unrestricted access to rares that a melee would be very difficult to maintain both hit/dam and saves. So yeah... I want back in and I don't want to be as big a gimp as I suspect I may be if I just pick a combo willy nilly. Advise me... it will be one more tail for you to stomp. f0xx
Cabal outfit is awesome. Most of the time my characters aren't wearing rares on every slot anyway. There is currently a very strong ogre ranger in nexus that is moderate too. Kadrinath who is currently an elder in gladiator was also moderate previously and he is a werebeast too! Any combo is viable, just pick one you want to play.
Implementor Anume Posted March 30, 2011 Implementor Report Share Posted March 30, 2011 If you like melee, go either blademaster or if you can't stomach the training ranger. Choose a cabal that will give you a hr / dr boost. Find those non-rares which are really very decent (light, wrist, head, for example). If you are caballed, you can fill up slots with cabal eq (if not, Merchant eq), take the time to identify that sometime, you will be surprised that it is pretty decent. Examples of combis I could imagine doing well with as moderate (others might completely disagree ): halfling blademaster WM Gladiator mino warrior/serk Gladiator ogre ranger Knight / Nexus (vuln means more saves but in this cabal combi it would work anyway) Edit: they are right on the thief too. That would work pretty well. If you are not that fixed on melee, you'd probably do very well with a cleric (either align) or shaman (Savant would probably be the easiest cabal for those). mmajunkie
Yeah, maybe. But I'd want a magic resist race if I was playing a moderate.
Croyvern
Since you feel more comfortable melee, I am going to go with dwarf bard marshall But of course, I only say that because it would give me a chuckle. Slith Blademaster has alot going for it. But play whatever you desire to. The truth is, as so many point out, rares have become, well, rare. As it should be. So often you will not even fill your numbers, and as many have stated, there are nice alternatives to the rares. So enjoy playing anything you wish, and you will find you will do fine. Have fun. mmajunkie
The bad thing about "rare" rares is that once one or two people collect a full suit of them, assuming they are in vet hands...they are going to be nearly unstoppable. You aren't going to see an ogre warrior in simple eq and low-lvl rares take down a syndi shaman who is megadecked. What if those two people are cabal allies? That eq is locked up. Because of that I suggest playing a magic resist race so it takes some of the need for saves eq away.

Imoutgoodbye
Moderate Ye olde Moderate Tierius is a species that the Revered Reverend belongs to. *blows bubbles from the pipe in his mouth as he steps from the shadows* If I may say so, it's quite nice. There's no fear of losing everything and being brought to the most pathetic state of worthlessness. By the time I'm unghosted, I have reclaimed the one or, at most, two rares they are allowed to take from me and I'm back in the game. It does take some tinkering to figure out which rares you would want to carry *pauses to brush some dust from his smoking jacket*, but I assure you that once you have decided on what you need, it's positively fantastic. Think about this: Every character is limited to the same number of rares in the inventory. Rather than be the Ruthless has to worry about weapon variety and suit variances, you can focus on having PIECES of a suit and an extra rare weapon without filling up your inventory or obsessing over how much to wear since you can only wear so much. You're not a god, but you're not crippled by gearing too much towards one type of opponent. You are, by definition, liquidity. *leans against the wall, readjusting one fuzzy bunny slipper* I must also say it's quite liberating for RP purposes. I've grown fonder of banter during and after PK with my opponents as they know that I cannot full loot them and they cannot full loot me, thus I am also becoming more adept at holding conversations during PK. It slows down battles and lets me see more clearly where opportunities arise in battle. There's no worries of a forced log out. Any person seen killing a Moderate character over and over and over again without any true provocation is likely to land in Deep Sh**. My dear man, the Reverend HIGHLY recommends the Moderate tier to those of us who do not have the time to sink our lives into this game, but still want to be part of the fun. We have as much to offer as the next person. So, here's to the Moderate Tier and it's anti-pissing cover for our Cheerios.
