Education Project #1

My first education project is 100% underway. :)

A little background: My high school football team won the Division 6 State Title. We're all very proud. Apparently one citizen in the community is more proud than anyone else because he's proposed (along with a few members of the school board) that he's willing to match $425,000 if the school board can come up with the rest of the money to build the school a new football stadium.

With our governor proposing $470 per pupil cuts to school funding, I'm not going to sit idly by while my community spends $850,000 on a football stadium when our high school has nearly 50% of its computers malfunctioning/not working (they also still have 3 1/2" floppy disk drives...same computers as when I graduated ten years ago!), the roof is leaking, and the heaters are nearly dead. The heaters alone to be replaced are $500,000.

So, I was going to write a letter to the editor and then join this community group, which is called the ICAA. I understand that this is not being funded with any tax money. However, before I could begin to set my plan into motion, a recent graduate of the high school wrote a letter that, well, let's just say this kid's heart is in the right place, but he stuck his foot in more than just his mouth.

I have amended my education project and sent in my own letter. I want to collaborate with this kid and help him present his ideas in a fashion that's more politically correct so he doesn't get run out of town. I prefer to not be the guy standing in front anyways. I've always cherished the role of advisor over the role of leader and only lead when I feel everyone else is too incompetent to lead or there's no one willing to take the leadership role.

Thus, my summer will be spent starting to build my education resume, rather than me just idly relaxing. Oh, and working on the CMT. By the way, can I add CMT to my resume list? :P
