Online Gambling

Simply because the Fed lodged a lawsuit against the major players in the online poker world doesn't mean it's completely shut down. The lawsuit is a straw man, mainly because the corporations they are going after don't operate in the United States.

Like anything in this country, the more it gets restricted or prohibited, the more the industry flourishes.

In the wake of this event, New Jersey voted to make their state the first in-state internet gambling market.

As usual, the Fed oversteps the wishes of the states, but it's only a matter of time until it's legal...and taxed like hell.

NOT very happy right now. I cannot even cash out because of this crap.

This is actually pretty funny coming from the Syndicate Imm.

I'm with you, Brehan. My money is now trapped in the internet, great.

Bahahahaha! Sounds like a tough puzzle. How to get it out? My bet is they cut their losses and take your winnings.

So... from the little news regarding this I've been able to find... the US govt. has filed a lawsuit against a number of major players in online gambling sites alleging that they have violated the laws for such as they currently exist... and a number of people here are viewing this as the government seeking greater control over things? Am I understanding this correctly (I am VERY open to being told I'm not here ;))? AFAIK, the laws are already in place, guys - this isn't a new legislative power grab in any way. This is just enforcement.

Whether or not the govt. should have any control over online gambling is irrelevant regarding this specific instance - the only relevant question is whether or not the prosecution can argue that already-existing laws were broken by these people.

Why do kids want their parents to give them money to buy stuff rather than having the parents buy it directly for them?

To be honest, I'm not convinced that the states having as much local control as they do is really something that benefits the greater good. I'm not convinced it's a detriment either.

Yes while I understand the laws were already in place and this is just enforcement as they are running around arresting ceo's and players from various gaming sites I really think it is BS that some pencil pushing old farts can tell me what to do with my own money. The only reason they emplaced any laws against the gambling over the internet was simply they could not find a way to tax it as the companies were overseas. And here I thought we lived in the land of the free and the home of the brave, I mean crap why the hell did I serve in the military, take a bullet, and get knifed in gitmo if it were not to protect these types of freedoms.

And to top it off I have over $2400 stuck in the internet that these fogies are keeping me from.

Are you really that naive Brehan? I mean, a man of your age should know better that you live in a country where moral is pushed away and on it's place sits personal interest. A country in which money define laws, money start wars, money elect presidents. Yes that is a country based on capitalism.

In such country you are only as important as the amount of money you posses.

And to make things even worse, the governments of the less developed countries, like the one I live in, praise the model of the almighty America and consider it as their goal to implement such model in their (our) countries too.

Well half the problems in America deal with laws trying to enforce morals, which doesn't work. The way it has to work is the morals have to come first, and the law second. Ie: if the taught morals fail, the law steps in to deal. Gambling, prostitution, marijuana laws, are just some of the few that they try to force their hand on.

Sure, I can have a business that I run myself and every bit of money I earn is from physical labor that I do for people. Why do they deserve it? I don't have health insurance or anything. They do jack **** for me. Every citizen of the US is simply an income generating cow on the big US farm. I can't directly play a game with someone and put up our OWN money against each OTHER without the government shutting it down? Are you ****ing kidding me? How is that freedom.

Brehan... we live in a country where people are not free to marry who they choose, where many states make it as hard as federally allowed for women to control their own bodies, where people are not allowed to decide for themselves what substances they will ingest, where our own citizens can be held indefinitely in solitary without trial so long as it's part of a question of "national security", where the government can wiretap your phone without a warrant... We lost our collective **** over 9/11, fearing terrorists everywhere. As I pointed out in the gun thread, we fear our fellow countrymen to the point where we feel the need to arm ourselves against them.

Free? Brave? We're neither of those things, and we haven't been for a very long time.
