mya
I noticed that we have a few newbie guides but we lack a newbie random tip thread. This is it. If the thread becomes anygood perhaps we can have it stickied. So fire away your random pearls of wisdom.
mya
* If you have the identify spell, you can 'BROWSE item' in shops to id them. * You can sell chimera or red dragon armor in armories to make money. * You can sell opal/onyx rings in jewelery stores for gold. * At lower ranks focus on hitroll and AC (armor class). This allows you to actually break monsters AC, hitting them more often and killing them faster. Better AC alows you to be hit less, meaning that you spend less time healing. * If you kill all monster, leave the AREA for around 3 min (6 ticks) for them to return. You can check what area you are in with LOOK SKY.
Magick
* If you have the Lore skill, you can 'BROWSE item' in shops to id them, albiet as a less than accurate version of identify. * You can sell iron armor in armories to make money. * Some wearable items can be used as boats. If you look hard enough, one can be found for free. * Tamara in Rheydin is always open. If you're hungry, pop in for some cheap muffins. * Barrels weigh less than milk bottles. They also take up less room. 1 Barrel in particular weighs 20# and holds ~13 drinks. 7 bottles weigh 35#. Help POUR. * Some containers (backpacks/sacks/pouches) hold a lot while weighing little. * You can practice your skills in any guild (if you can get in), not just your own. tassinvegeta
Hmm would be a great idea if some of these tips displayed randomly in the newbie chat in a way similar to how we have clan quests.

F-3000
* You can use ranged weapons to lure grouped monsters, regardless do you have the skill for ranged weapons. * Around 15s and later (even earlier if you're grouped), if you're playing non-evil, you'll find nice mithril armor from Thalos. It also sells for good coin, if you didn't request the items. * You don't want to buy the apples sold near Flying Citadel. * Pay attention to item weights. For example, some boats weight 20#, some weight zero. * If you have identify spell, identify furniture and chests as well. You'll learn more about their special properties. Pali
Wasn't that first one changed to no longer work, F3000?

mmajunkie
You can't shoot at certain (maybe all?) mobs anymore from a distance to draw aggro.
F-3000
You can't shoot at certain (maybe all?) mobs anymore from a distance to draw aggro. The lure-tactic doesn't work with mobs which don't hunt. But the luring does work, I can assure you, as I just moment ago tested it.

But the luring does work' date=' I can assure you, as I just moment ago tested it.[/quote'] it is NOT limited to mobs that do not hunt. The change specifically targeted gauntlets. I know the steel mobs do hunt, but cannot be pulled.

The-Nameless
Moderate does not mean weaker. Always check affects list. Keep all buffs up that u can. Never stay in a fight u did not start. It is better to flwee and engage on your terms. U should always think ur gonna lose a fight. Good armor does not mean u will win. Armor has no correlation with victory. Log and read everything. Make a word file and identify everything then document it for reference.
mmajunkie
Never start the bid for your character at less than 15 dollars, and always use the 10 day posting. ______________________________________________________________________ Don't let yourself be the hunted. Be the hunter. Never fight without sanctuary. Never fight when sanctuary has 0 hours. Learn the "dark" rooms. Ask in game for their locations and purpose. Learn the underdark. You can escape almost anyone very easily through here. When running, do not stop to "where" it will waste time. Run 4 areas away as fast as you can and THEN where. If you are still in danger, recall. Learn to use sneak to its true power if you have it. Doubling back on people works so much. Make as many enemies as you can. (Funny how our RP game Newbie Tips thread is ALL PK oriented.) Twinblades713
(Funny how our RP game Newbie Tips thread is ALL PK oriented.) You're right. Make sure when you 'smote' you type the sentence as you wish to see it, as long as you include your name. smote doesn't necessarily replace your name at the beginning of the sentence. If you don't abuse the ability, you can 'control' mobs. Smote a mob doing something, as long as your name is included. ex: smote Tamara winks at Twinblades as he walks up to the counter. This may be of personal opinion, but personalize your emotes as much as you can. If you wish to wave at someone, you can 'wave happily' but if you pmote it, you will always produce something more contextually appealing. ex: pmote waves with a slight smile as he turns to leave. If you favor RP highly, consider joining Herald. It offers many great tools to enhance RP for yourself and other players. Even if you DO love to RP, still be wary in towns. Only under rare cases are you exempt from PK. There are three main types of RP, imo. Reactive RP, this is roleplay as you feel your character would respond to a situation given to him. He experiences the world and you as a player decide his next course of action based on his experiences and beliefs. Egocentric RP, this is roleplay based solely on your character and his own goals and (potential/desired) accomplishments. This type of RP requires someone to join in your RP, or else you will be alone and you are in solo RP. Solo RP, this is roleplay that either consists of no characters but yourself, or yourself and something imm controlled, that doesn't represent another player. I make these differences, not because any RP is better than another, this is impossible. I make the differences to shed some clarity on what can be expected from each. None of these types will make your character more successful than another type of RP. And you are NEVER bound to just one type, it is likely you will experience all three, frequently if you invite them. Egocentric RP is the most easily creative RP because you are in complete control of everything your character thinks, is, does, you know his timeline and his plans. If you wish to be the center of attention or a plot, have responsibilities such as keeping in contact with many other characters, this is the type of RP you will likely enjoy most. Sometimes it can be disappointing if you only try to create an egocentric RP plot. If you are getting few results, try a more reactive RP approach, or work on your ideas alone until someone interested comes along. Reactive RP is a lighter, more go-with-the-flow type of RP. It requires you to do very little background work, or solidifying your character as a common name. Many people prefer this lower level of pressure, for instance you can back out of an RP plot if you don't have time as a player. A whole plan will not necessarily fall apart if you don't follow through. Solo RP is a great way to prove your commitment to a character's RP, as if you are snooped by an imm, you are showing the truest, least affected version of yourself. It is also a way, by saving logs, to advance your character, his goals, or a plot he may be involved with. Nothing about RP is absolute, and there is no real wrong way to RP... aside from NOT RPing, (OOC conduct) It enriches pk, the depth of your character and the ambiance of the game.
