Best Beginner Mage

So I'm looking to finally play a mage to pinn. I figure it's about time. Are there a couple mage classes that are easier than others (eg. I've heard necro isn't so newb-friendly bc you need zombies) but that still would provide some exciting pk potential without getting boring?

why? What about a Shaman, Invoker, or Battlemage? I'm not "new" to the game, but new to casters. I like clerics, but they seem a little boring. Great survivability, but still a little boring. and no offensive spells until way later.

You won't PK until latter.

Best newbie pure mage is Invocker.

Necro easier to rank but, hard on PK/ staying alive.

Battlemage is quite more PK friendly, but very complicated due to unkeep.

Invockers are harder to rank, but are PK easy gods, if you managed to charge your staff.

Dk's are probably your best bet. A mage and a warrior, all in one. A bit of a invoker, of a shaman and necro.

Clearics are easy as pie, just take drow Cleric discord.

Played plenty of DK's, Demon Dk's and half a dozen vamps (excellent mage/melee hybrid) or more since 1.0. I'm looking for a straight up communer/caster.

However, things have changed drastically and I've forgotten so many of the basics over the last two year hiatus that I consider myself basically a newb again and wanna make it easy on myself.

Invoker or Cleric will give you the most straightforward PK. Cleric offering the most survivability.

Battlemage can offer you the best ability to solo areas, and gain glimmering staves as well. You are also going to have an easy time gearing up because a battlemage is something that pretty much every party that is going gearing wants to have in the group for the hasting of melee and slowing of other casters.

So, out of all the mage classes, ignore ease of use, ignore beginners learning curve, ignore survivability. What mage is the most dynamic/ "FUN" to play?

I'll get bored if the pk strategy of a char is just "charge, bash/bodyslam" or "co path" until dead. I like having different strategies and ways to pk that I can adjust according to the opponent(s), timing, etc. otherwise I lose interest.

I think the most complicated mages to pk with are battlemages and liches, both need a lot of time and trial to get good with them.

Invokers are fun for the sheer gunpower but you have to adjust to your adversary.

Cleric is more than path, path, path, they are more survivable than mages for their healing ability.

Shaman is dancing around your opponent, as you know, so something for people with a LOT of patience.

Go with whatever gets your interest.

Battlemages are extremely fun once you get the hang of them. You have a lot to worry about as far as strategy with a battlemage.

Invokers, however, would be extremely fun for you. Minus trying to learn mana charge (which isn't all that hard in the first place) I imagine you'll enjoy blowing stuff up with nice damaging spells.

Invokers are fun.

Sneaking around a Fire Giant and surprise casting Icestorm, for unspeakables And shattering his weapon in the same round...

Or surprising hunting groups in the pentagram, thundering in with call lightning for a quick kill and vanishing in seconds.

I suggest a battlemage if you have never played one. They are versatile, powerful, can be a wide variety of races/aligns, are not too hard to pick up yet take a while to master. They can solo almost anything and are not terribly EQ dependent, and always wanted in a group.
