Well it is a PK RP MUD so it's kinda hard to avoid one or the other, especially when the rules say it's both.

All I know... this isn't an FPS where you shoot someone whether or not they're reloading. You see a puny little girl with little to no equipment how much of a threat to you is she really? Or anyone for that matter.

I know when I learn PK I ain't gunna be pickin on nobody just cause I can. BUT! That's just my play style. Maybe being too nice makes me easy to push over?

Ah well, I have more fun than frustrated so I'll stick to my guns.

I'll get this eventually. I just know it!

Well I'm not sure what her rp is so you're right she may not fit in Herald that's why I suggest giving her a pk immunity shield (with cooldown) so she can continue whatever it is her rp is with less worry over pk. What do you think giving a newbie undead and taking away word is actually going to do for her? Might as well put a big red flag on her saying 'condeath me please'. She's already quit playing before out of frustrations and I just don't like the idea of seeing it happen again.

You're also right when you say Herald with a pk shield limits you but on the other hand its helped Heralds and more rp'd players stay and continue to be productive in this game. I don't see how its limited guys like Typhoeous and Mopaat at all because that's a choice they've made themselves and that's how they want to play.

In your situation with Samaet you were a bit different because you seemed highly motivated to work on your pk. I'm not seeing the same in this situation with Liadon.

I completely agree with the benefits of it, and I'm not suggesting for one minute that I want to see newer players demotivated because of the intense PK environment here. However the fact is that outside of Herald, there is no PK shield. This MUD is a role-play enforced MUD, but it is also a PK MUD. I am not suggesting that 100% roleplay-orientated characters are not welcome, but rather, we all know by now that nobody is safe in PK. Would it really hurt to learn a couple of nice hiding spots and learning areas well enough to be able to run efficiently? Not even the Herald PK shield is infallible.

All I wanted to get at is that a PK shield is no substitute for the skills needed to survive and it certainly doesn't hurt having a go at learning some of them whilst the perfect opportunity is there. Note that I mean survive, and not PK - it's much easier to survive (especially with a cleric, even if recall has been taken away) than it may seem at first for a newer player, because you concern yourself with "Wow I will never be able to kill this guy!" and die trying, as opposed to "Wow, he hits hard but if I run 3 areas away and quaff this recall and run the other way I could probably escape." There is a big difference between trying to kill somebody and trying to keep yourself alive - you take risks when you try to kill people. An aware cleric that doesn't want to die, however, can be a nightmare to kill.

Than it sounds like we're in agreement as the pk shield won't take away from her pk aspect entirely. She can still learn to pk and avoid pk with it and utilizing her own skill if she chooses. But most importantly she can still spend most of her time concentrating on rp without jerks like Past Tassinvegeta ruining her experience. ;)

I don't think giving a PK shield to a newbie will increase her experience to FL at all. In fact, I'm completely against it. Why should we treat people differently that are new to FL? How will they become better if we give them a PK shield?

Easiest thing to do in this case? Make her a moderate. If you can't be a moderate because she's Undead, remove her undead and just make her an evil cleric. If she has the RP to be an undead, then the PK comes with it, as well as the holier-than-thou RP stereotypes of goodies who want to kill all undead.

You can't have everything, people!

As a several.year vet. I find it difficult at times and frustrating at how some ppl just crush and pillage with no respect. Theres a lot of dirty pk, but im not complaining merely pointing out that for new players hey are basically free malforms. Full loot/sac could end their want to play as it takes them much longer to gain gear. Pk is a necissary evil to learn flands though maybe an outreach to point out what they can do to better themselvez would help. Pk logs are most useful but if you dont know what your looking for it might as well be chinese.

Whoa whoa whoa there Jibs. I've been RPing for a long long time! However this MUD thing is completely new to me! I wouldn't ever say I could out RP someone and it's not like I worked to be undead. It just happened that way and I went along with it. The imms seen something in my play style and liked it enough to give me a little present. I took huge sacrifices with Liadon, but one thing we are all aware of, Liadon the character is / was my first character ever. I thought everyones first character sucked azz. Sure I got super close to her, and yes I am STILL VERY close to her. Having her condie will prolly set me back a bit simply because so much of me has went into her. So much so I'll prolly ask to change my screen name (everyone will know the new one).

Still, I love that people here want to keep me around, but I have to agree. Shielding me from the kill-whres will not teach me anything. If I wanted to keep Liadon strictly a RP character i would have never had her exclaim her pledge to the "other side" and claim vengeance. You can't scream and holler and expect to be unheard. Not to mention I haven't seen to many Wraiths running around, sure... if I knew how to PK I'd want a piece of it too. Especially if it's coming from a person that knows how to set up a decent story. (yes I complimented myself. LoL)

In any case, Liadon will die a noob character, she'll suck all the way up to the very end. My idea when I joined this PK RP environment was to learn all that I could with her. I expected to be trashed completely. Even in other visual MMO's I still get my arse whooped. Put me in a first person shooter? yeah I'll give you something to worry about.

For those of you worried that I'll run off and quit this MUD have no fear. Like everyone else I have little tantrums. Sure... this is a game and we're all big kids. Nobody likes to loose, despite popular opinion I'm extremely competitive. So when I first started my thought process was this:

I cannot PK because I suck and I'm scared, so instead I'll give people WICKED stories. Everything I've ever learned about story writing, everything I've learned period about RPing I would put into my character. So much so, when I log in Liadon is my persona. I think like her, talk like her to the point where in a certain cabal I couldn't progress because I refused to change character persona. She/I refused to be any different than we where because WE where the ones that had it all thought out. The rest where lost fools. (oh how wrong I was... LoL)

In any case, this change I'm going to make happen. Whether I instantly learn how to PK and have a glorious death, or I stutter along until the very end Liadon will Condie because someone stronger and smarter at PK than she and I will die.

ya know what? I look forward to it, it WILL happen because it happens to EVERY character. Where there is birth there is death, when there is a beginning there is an end.

Like her life, I too will one day STOP sucking, and become good at it. Know why? Because if I hang around the lot of you guys and girls long enough I'll become a cold blooded killer too!

There has never been a time that I've feared to ask for help. The vets here are generally willing to teach someone newer (if only to have more meat to beat on. Giggidy) In any case, eventually I'll understand PK and wont freak whenever the red flies at me. Instead it'll empower me and I'll beg to be killed.

So... I appreciate all of your help, sincerely I do. But shielding me will not teach me anything.

I do want help. Advice in any form from any person is appreciated.

I love you guys, I promised I'll learn PK and either intimidate, or scare you off completely.

By the way, I don't know why she is outcast.

What I mean is, we currently have a wood elf, who is a restring from ELF and is neutral, and not an outcast.

Lia is an undead cleric. She used to be an elf healer. Why is she actually an outcast? She is neither part of the elven society any more, nor a part of the healer guild.

I think you mistook my post. I said "If you have the RP to be an Undead, the PK comes with it." Since you're obviously an Undead now, you obviously have the RP, which means that you have to deal with the PK that comes with it.

I in no way thwarted your ways of RP or PK. I just simply said that you won't learn a damn thing if you're given a PK shield 'just because we think it's the best thing to do'.

Uhm. That would be why she is an Outcast. Outcasted from her society' date=' and her guild.....[/quote']

From what society? She is not an elf at all anymore.

By your logic, we should have all Qclasses/Races outcast because they've been something different before.

Our outcasting model seems a bit blurry to me.

The slith ranger we had recently is a good example for a well placed outcast.

The neutral wood elf (elf restring) is a good example for non outcast.

But how exactly do we define who to outcast?

And more importantly, how do you define which outcasts should be able to use recall?

In my opinion, Liadon should not be outcast because she becomes something completely new. New race, new class, a completely new beginning.

Having played a Demon worshipping elf, I can assure you, that odd RP is not what causes "outcast". My advice to you Liadon is this, stick to your guns, accept that the gods have given you a path, seek the paths end. Do NOT give up on PK, you may not be able to win, but remember, sometimes the goal is not to win but merely to survive. The heart races for new players in PK, it takes a few dozen battles before this stops. Most fights will not be over in 30 seconds, flee, get somewhere safe, evaluate the initial combat. Were you getting stomped into the ground? Change tactics. Were you out damaging your opponent?? Go back for more. Wimpy. Umm, Wimpy. Without the gate you will need to rely on other tactics of escape. Gatestones, recalls, and black pills will be your friends, keep them close. Use them when necessary. DO NOT allow yourself to be killed, giving up IN PK will set your player growth back. FIGHT. Tooth and nail, scream, scratch and bite! But allowing say a Dark Knight to have an easy kill only makes them stronger the next time you meet them. There is no shame in running. Just remember that recalls cut your moves in half, and any PKer worth his salt will know where your hometown is, recalling at the last minute (near the end of your moves) will only mean you could not have gone far when you recalled. Be careful, enjoy the WHOLE game, and by all means, go get em!

Well I did loose a bunch of lives, Condeath was made even closer in this state.

As for why I'm outcasted I suppose it makes sense but by definition when I'm Outcasted I have been forsaken from a certain religion. Koevhar is who Liadon left, not this new guy. She left because Koevhar left, a feeling of abandonment because as one of Koevhars "leading" priestess there where no notes, no farewells nothing. All she knew was she had been dedicated to a certain God then a new feeling came over her.

So what felt familiar to her? Well for a time she was close to a certain someone who praised Anume. Anume never changed, and she's never changed AND her followers and she herself have brought change within the world. Koevhar only gave her advice, where Anume's followers become powerful undead.

The power with Anume was extremely tempting, and after realizing that she'd lost SO MANY LOVED ONES to other evils the promise of having more power herself was extremely tempting.

Not to mention, if not attempting to PK her she'll explain why she's a wraith now as well. (there is SO MUCH more to her story than just going from healer to the exact thing she vowed to destroy.)

remaning steadfast to the RP of the character despite the challenges (outcasting) on the way will almost always result in some eventual compensation.

but you have to stick with it, and be consistent.

A long lived character will change many times in their lives, it is the players ongoing effort to push forward, to stick to ideals, that defines what they are capable of in the end.
