Polk
What exactly are people takling about when they say mindflayer? Is this some kind of a weapon or what?
mya
It's the name given to high ranking Illithiad. Actualy, it's a weapon. Like the name says. It's a flail. Elf only. That in the past, could not be defended. But not it can be Parryed.
jibber
In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game' date=' illithids (commonly known as mind flayers) are monstrous humanoid aberrations with psionic powers. In a typical Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting, they live in the moist caverns and cities of the enormous Underdark. Illithids believe themselves to be the dominant species of the multiverse and use other intelligent creatures as thralls, slaves, and chattel.[/quote'] As it says above.. best place to go to read ALL about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illithid
Mali
Mindflayer is two things: In DND, a mindflayer is what in FL is called the illithid, an evil tentacled being prone to magic. It is also a flail, unique to elves, that can be found in the underdark west of val miran.

Imoutgoodbye
Mindflayer is two things: In DND' date=' a mindflayer is what in FL is called the illithid, an evil tentacled being prone to magic.[/quote'] Blasphemy! In Dungeons and Dragons the mindflayer is known as both a mindflayer AND an illithid, depending upon the realms setting you play in. They are innate psionic creatures with the capacity for learning magic, which is completely different from psionics and the rules that govern how psionics and schools of magic interact is completely ****ed up! Liadon Xiloscient
All i have to say, even with a level 12 Human (samurai inspired) Fighter and a level 12 group that bastard was freaking scary! Teleporting and thralls that we needed alive... *shudders* All I think about in a D&D nightmare world is an Illithid with two Beholders as pets. Just... that's too much. And it'd be frustrating because you possibly have two highly trained (possibly thralled) beholders that would work on flaking you with their gaze attacks while the Illithid simply mopped the floor as it would simply just have to stand outside of the gaze and use it's mental magics on you. UNLESS! Your DM said that all magics entering the area became void them maybe the Illithid would simply wait around the edges after using some sort of flying spell or EQ that allows it to fly and just zap anyone who gets out of the gaze area. Would be a bad day... I think I would throw my 3.5 DMG 2 at him/her and say "read this on how NOT to anger your players."
Elfrosto
I was gonna say they are talking about one of our Vets that could kick your *** in pk. "Oh crap, it's mindflayer. might as well log off."

Liadon Xiloscient
*skips all the way PAST ALL posts after Mya simply to post* AD&D!? HA! OMG!!! That shiz is SO OLDSCHOOL! It's also how I learned to play D&D! Gosh... good times, good times. Thank you for that Mya you just rocked my world! EDIT: YOU FOOLS! Illithids cannot be compared to Davey Jones! PUTRID MORTALS! *glowers* No no, what Davey Jones reminds me of is a Kathooloo(SP?). South Park won me back when they had him on there. ALSO to Frosties post, Mindflyer deserves his name because ANY D&D player and DM will know no Illithid is something to laugh at. They'll not only steal your character but cause your DM to laugh maniacally as they say, "roll another character".
