Teralis
Heres a good question since I am new to the class, what is the best stance vs blademasters and rangers. I have almost no experience with Monks and want to know what I am getting myself into premonk as these are the two classes I usually have the most trouble with with any of my chars especially halfers. KRins
Basically, I'd go Dragon for blademasters... they aren't masters of crap if you disarm all their weapons. Rangers...idk, never was super successful against them in a monkish fashion. I'd try dragon or drunken.

Deykari
As a very 'general' rule, typically offensive stances are going to be what you use when you want to kill somebody, and defensive for when you just plain need to survive - it can be very hard to kill a skilled player in defensive, but it can also be equally as hard for them to kill you (great for standard retrieval). Note that this is very general. Whether you go defensive/offensive depends on your EQ, their EQ, your skill, their skill etc. Ranger can be tough in offensive if you're not prepared. I felt comfortable fighting rangers in Dragon as Scholin and going for the powerful disarms, however there were certain Warmaster factors in place that made me feel more comfortable doing that. Killing off all of their pets (or all but one if their pets can't hide, to track them, depending) may be necessary in offensive - which you can do quickly. If they're massively decked and you're at a real disadvantage and eating some big damage in offensive, then horse and drunken are worth experimenting with. Blademasters can be a bit of a pain, thanks to doublesheath. Dragon is again probably the most useful stance, but the problem you have is any smart BLM will have 2 sets of the same weapons they're using against you (like 2x polearms or 2x dual wields) so that if you disarm one, they'll whip out an identical set type to keep their stance effect. This can make it a pain to try and disarm (especially if they predict dirt) them enough to have them weaponless or no longer dual wielding, so try to time your disarms for when they will be about to perform their skills. You disarm just before they land a critical strike, and you have time to sacrifice or do something else before they can react. A fantastic trick is to use Chii Bolt at level 2 - level 3 chii bolt strips some protections and lags RANDOMLY between 1 - 3 rounds of combat however unload a Chii Bolt level 2 and it will -always- lag a minimum of 2 rounds (I can't remembe the specifics - I'm pretty sure it's 1 round of lag for you, but 3 for them when you unload it, meaning that your next command leaves them lagged for another 2 rounds?). A timed disarm plus level 2 bolt gives you chance to throw another disarm in, or get a thrash/trip going, or you can open straight with the bolt and disarm, and hope they've put a command in. Don't be afraid to experiment though. Depending on the situation, some stances can be much more effective. Both fights can be a pain, but don't forget with a monk there is a randomness factor. If it's not going your way, flee and rest and prepare yourself fully to try again, and keep trying until your plan sticks - you never know, next time you may hit a big juicy chakera.
