P_body
So whenever I try to get on the forum when I'm on the mud, it seems to make my connection to FL time out. Then I have to shut it all down to get it back up, or wait and pray it will. I can still navigate anywhere in firefox, but I can't connect to the mud. Any ideas what's going on? I run on an old Acer lap top. Ps. I need to get windows updates (people say you should get them every so often) and my comps been running slow, but don't know where or what to do to get 'em. Help? f0xx
That doesn't make any sense. Do you have firewall?
Erana
Try using windows update from the start menu for the updates.
P_body
No firewall that would do that. And the updates are running. Thanks Erana.
jibber
Defrag and run spybot as well.
P_body
is spybot free? And defragging takes freakin' forever...*sigh*. Looks like no training will get done today eh?...
f0xx
I believe there are certain softwares that can defrag while you are using the PC. And yes, Spy bot search & destroy is free.
Erana
Also try if it is only zMUD. You might want to use another client and see if you can play with that until you find your problem. I like to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in addition to spybot. It is free.
mya
Use defrag while you sleep. Use the muds IP on Zmud. 216.136.9.
Kyzarius
if your defrag is taking an extended period of time then it NEEDS to be run.

jibber
I remember celerity posting something about why zmud was slow all the time. Can't put my finger on it. Buffer maybe?
The-Nameless
Chances are your firefox has been corrupted with a virus. I recommend going to bleepingcomputer.com and running COMBOFIX. It is easy to use. You will click ok, or yes to everything. it takes about 10 minutes to run, and Brehan will tell you it works. Also consider windowssecurity.com/trojanscan. Web based. Once you run these, uninstall your Anti virus software, then I suggest installing free avg (it is a great one and tiny so uses little resources) Free.avg.com
The-Nameless
use Mushclient or TinTin
mya
Celerity didn't play for a couple years because she blamed the foringn internet she had was to slow. Then one day she decided to play without all her triggers (or on javaaplet on mud webpage) and discuvered that it was all of her Triggers that were slowing things down. She had and insane number of computation done by Zmud, and that's why she had such huge lag.

Oni
I'm curious, I remembered having heard excessive use of triggers and coloring could slow things down on Zmud. Does this hold true for MushClient and TinTin also?
F-3000
Basically, yes.
