To Buy Zmud or Not?

So I have Zmud, only used Zmud since I started in 01/02. Used old versions until recently, when I came back and couldn't find an old version of zmud anywhere. So my 30 day trial runs out in 48 hours..and I'm wondering if it's worth the 25 smacks to keep zmud.

If I did switch, what would I go with and why?

I use a very extensive trigger coloring system, and decent amount of aliases, so I'll definitely wanna keep those. I have exported them to .txt files for easy reference and importing...and I don't want to have to try and figure out how to add them to another client...oi..

What're your thoughts and suggestions?

I've always used Zmud or Gmud and prefer Zmud between the two. However, I really like some of the features I've heard mentioned here recently about TinTin or Mushclient? Where you can simply change the "target" for all your aliases and probably triggers. Sounds pretty convenient.

Setup a variable in zmud, such as @victim

Setup your aliases/triggers to target @victim

Ex: #alias dv {c 'dispel magic' @victim}

Ex: #trigger {@victim is here} {murder @victim} If you use a trigger like this, make sure you can toggle it on/off easily

then simply change who your victim is. victim=John, victim=Anume, etc.

Ok ok. What's this TinTin that people are talking about, and does it use the same language that zmud does to establish triggers, aliases, etc?

Alot of my aliases have variables so that I can easily change them all if something gets screwed up, (like getting recalls from a backpack vs. bag vs, 2.backpack etc.) Can you do that with TinTin as well?

tintin or Wintin are bufferless clients that use the same language as the other ones. Zmud, gmud, and such all use variations of tintin and wintin as a backbone

Bufferless eh? How is that better than Zmud?

bufferless means that your commands go right to the mud. Zmd uses a buffer, you can even adjust its delay I believe. This can sometimes be detrimental if you run a lot of actions / triggers. Though I am pretty sure you would have to have a TON of them to have any impact.

The idea though, is bufferless is faster input to the mud, since there is...well..no buffer.

Does a bufferless client mean your commands get processed on the mud side quicker? meh, depends on the delay.

Hit and run doesn't use numpad :P

And I thought by buffer, you mean that I can check the history by pressing "page up" or scrolling up. This is a priceless feature and I haven't really noticed any slowing down due to it, despite me having it set to maximum.

We had this discussion on FB already. He either numpads (since he uses ONE hand' date=' according to you) or he has abnormally HUGE freaking hands.[/quote']

Who uses a numpad? Jesus I'm still just running around on Gmud.

Edit: And I've been on a laptop since like... 2005.
