Polk
I'm confused again... Enhanced damage, does the damage increase everytime you the skill increases, or does it just give you more opportunity to do extra damage when it increases? And, because giants have 103 enhanced damage, do they automatically do more damage than anyone else with the same amount of hit and dam, same weapon, and fighting the same mob? For instance, if you have mastered enhanced damage with an elf warrior, and have 103 enhanced damage with a storm giant warrior, both gaining same hit and dam, will the giant still do more damage? jibber
I never looked this far into enhanced damage before, so don't take my reply as fact. I believe that strength factors in with how hard someone hits, as well as damroll, and the weapon the wielder is wielding. I don't believe a drow wielding the cane of wohpat, with the same damroll as a firegiant wielding a cane of wohpat will do the same damage. I believe the giant would do more, being it has more strength than the drow. As far as 100 versus 103.. I don't think there's any difference. The only reason it increases to 103 is the automastery (which most other skills do as well, by default) and in this case means nothing. Again, don't take my thoughts as fact
f0xx
Of course a giant will always do more damage than a low str race with similar EQ. For the biggest part though that comes from the damroll difference (which on its turn comes from the str difference), as you said, not enhanced damage. Although enhanced damage still plays a miniature role. I believe enhanced damage is simply a multiplier after your damage is already calculated. The higher the prof in enhanced damage skill, the higher the multiplier. Of course, don't expect any noticeable results which will grab your attention (100-103 difference). Although, the difference between 75-100% is quite noticeable. I suggest you don't dig that much into such generic skills, or you will lose much pleasure of playing. I remember last time I was digging into such questions I was wondering why a dual wielding warrior with forth attack never really gets 8 attacks per round
the_nightmare
There is something more, size affects damage as well. The bigger you are the most damage you do.
mya
STR does not directly affect damage output, Viri himself said. Size does not affect damage output. Larger stronger races appear to deal more damage because they have a larger base dam roll. So if you have a faerie and a stone giant, with the same weapon and same hit/dam, they will do the same damage (on average). "because giants have 103 enhanced damage, do they automatically do more damage"? No, but they are less likely to fail the enhanced damage roll. Just like +% stance/meditation only ensure that you miss the roll less. Actual increase to mana regen comes from "+ managain". On my opinion the damage factors are: -HOW OFTEN YOU HIT -weapon average damage -damroll -Fire giants with fire weapons -Ogre race -weapon proficiency Polk, get a high damage weapon, pump that dam roll to 50 and make sure you use a weapon he does not knows about. Having the potential to hit hard is nothing if you cannot hit him at all. PS: 30 damroll is fine. No point in having +10/+50 or +30+50 and no saves. the_nightmare
Size affects damage, I can bet with you on that mya.Zho, please enlight mya a bit.
f0xx
I don't see how often you hit is a damage defining factor. But then, I am a noobsauce compared to Mya's knoledge.
jibber
For the most part... I'm inclined to believe mya in this case. Minus hitroll being a defining factor.
mya
Not hitroll, actually landing the blow. There no point on being able to dead === Desintegrates ===, if you can't touch him at all. This is why I prefer avg25 weapon type that he does not knows how to parry over a avg30 weapon that he 100% prof in. Sure you have a lower potential damage on hit, but you will deal more damage per round on average. "Size affects damage" I think this misconception comes from the fact that Larger races, have inherent higher STR ratings and thus more Dam roll. For example a 25 STR Fire giant has 12/14 hit/dam naked while a 18 STR Elf is 3/4. Unless you are referring to Zerks...
jibber
I think he's referring to a certain cabal he's in. I can almost guarantee size does not affect how hard you hit / how much damage you deal. It's another cabal skill, the_nightmare.
mya
Zerks are insane beasts. Nothing can compare to a Fire Zerk Devastation Raged wielding a Two handed Fire Weapon of high average damage, landing a high roll on weapon dice damage on a Feral. Total damage = ~45*(136/120)*1.6*1.2*1.15*1.5+50*0.8=208 *1.5=312 Your fire meele attack >>> ANNIHILATE <<< a Feral. Or something close... A chance to one round a feral if he gets 3 strikes in. Hey Jibber wan't to hear something even more stupid than usual? Good luck will decrease your damage most of the times.

I wasn't sure how you were going to actually manage this. Good job! It's a percentage, how much does .03 actually end up being? not much.

mya
Shrink/Enlarge spell decreases/increases damrol, affects STR and CON and can give +1 to carry. The +1 to carry (number of objects you can carry) is great for battlemages, even if at times confusing.

jibber
Not sure how I ousted anyone's character either. So back off, please. (and the shrink works because of the -hit/dam DUE to -str, and -size.)
