BIO:

It all began many years ago, in a small town. The town was like most small towns, poor and desolate. Not even the crops gave forth much money, as the land was harsh and bare. It was here that Bartor and Lalya Valare raised their young son, Karman. Being poor, and not having much in the way of wealth, the Valare's raised Karman as best they could. Long hours were spent with their son, telling age old tales of heros and villans, and mighty acts of courage and nefarious plots of evil. Karman loved these times, as the art of the word came naturally to him, even as a small child. Years went by, and Karman grew into a young adult, showing much in the way of intelligence and a sly wit. As it would happen, one day a wizened old troubadour passed through his town one day. To pay for his lodging and board, the man would sit in the local tavern and tell stories to the villagers. Karman grew an intrest in this man, and sat for hours that day just listening to the old man's tales. But it was when the traveller began to tell riddles, that Karman found his passion. The riddle to him was the a prayer to a cleric, something sacred and pure. He vowed to dedicate his life to the Art of the Riddle.

Time passed and Karman grew into a young man. In keeping with his vow, he decided to travel the world and learn new riddles. It was here, that his life would drastically change. During his travels, he stopped into the city of Val Miran to buy some supplies and perhaps make a few extra coins with a telling of some riddles. It would happen that a drow mage had stopped and began to listen to him. "Ah, a mage like that would surely appreciate the riddles I have to tell", he thought. But it was not to be so. On the third or fourth riddle the mage could not solve, dark words flew from his lips and a roaring pain blazed into Karman's chest. He found it difficult to breathe and fell into a deep coughing fit. With a smug look on his face, the mage leered at him, and spoke words to burned into Karman's brain..."Solve that if you can, Bard." Somehow, the dark mage had shattered his lungs, and embedded some curse into his health. Weak and dazed, Karman crawled into a corner of the bar, and promptly passed out. Upon his awakening, he found that the curse was indeed real, and now he had to live life suffering with a curse he knew not how to cure. He knew his career as a Bard would be over, as he no longer had the breath to sing. Steeling himself, he again vowed to make riddles his life-long passion. But it would not end here... no, it was just a beginning.

Karman decided he would remain in Val Miran, as he could not travel far with his new condition. He decided to make the best of his new home, and soon had firmly entrenched himself as a permanent fixture in the Central Square. Many hours were spent as people would gather to hear his riddles, and occassionally give one to him as well. In this time, he began sending riddles by messanger to all of Thera and it's surrounding villages and homesteads, daring all to rack their brains with his riddles. Karman became quite well known for this, as each day the messanger would deliver to him stacks of scrolls with answers from all walks of people in Thera. From the Shadow Knights, to the Holiest of Clerics, all tried their hand at solving his latest offering. It was a grand time for Karman, but little did he know he was being watched by the Heavens.

One day, as he traveled with a Faerie Herald named Phaak and an Invoker whose name eludes this writer, Karman fell into a horrendous coughing fit. As he dabbed his mouth with a rag, blood was seen. His health had deteriorated much in the last few years, and he had sought the aid of many reknowed Clerics and Healers of the land. Yet the curse was foreign to them, and for some reason their prayers went unanswered. It would happen that a Healer by the name of Mithgar stopped to rest in the same place, and noticing Karman's sickness attempted to heal him. But, alas, it was not to be so. Just as Karman felt another fit coming on, a voice seemed to speak out of nowhere. "Perhaps the touch of an Immortal can heal what has not been healed", it said. And with that, Lord Chueh, the Herald Leader slowly became visible. He placed his hands on Karman's chest and a faint burning echoed through his lungs. He had been cured! No longer a slave to his health, Karm stood speechless before the God who had just given him what no man was able to. With a wink to Phaak, Lord Chueh faded away, and the foursome were silent with awe. A new era had begun for Karman, one of health but not happiness.

As he traveled the lands, he met many people of different backgrounds and races. It was an Avian Invoker named Kaylian who, along with her friend Qax the Berserker, that Karman soon became fast friends with. Her beauty amazed him, and he soon found himself falling in love with her. He inquired as to her availablility, and learned that her birthright was to marry a mage like herself. Distraught and rejected, he soon began to lapse into a deep depression. His once cheerful and witty moods were replaced with ones laced with bitterness. He even sought out the Herald mage Aymen in a vain attempt to learn some magic, in hopes he might sway Kaylian. But it was all for naught. Bigger things were about to happen... things that would change Karman, and all of Thera, forever.

One evening, as he perused his volume of riddles, time blurred and he found himself standing before the Demon Lord, Kaogalan. It had seemed the Demon had taken an intrest in him, and his riddles. The Demon gave Karman a choice... Kaogalan would offer him the protection of His wing and the shadow of His eye, in exchange for a service. Karman, already in awe of the Demon Lord, accepted. From the instant he said yes, things began to change in Karman. He soon became known as The Riddler of the Demon, and crafted new riddles telling of Kaogalan's Eye. In this time, he was granted with the Mark of the Demon upon his flesh. Now, Karman began to lose that which was himself and gain something else. He began to believe what he was speaking, and lost his sanity in the process. It seems the time spent with the Demon Lord had warped his mind, and twisted his soul. He began to preach the words of Kaogalan with a fanatic's fervor, telling all who would listen and even those that didn't. Kaogalan had become his Master, through and through.

During this period of change, Karman was accepted into the vaunted and much renowned Halls of the Heralds. Quickly, he became Elder and wrote many scrolls. Yet, they all had to do with his Master, and the faith he had chosen. He soon alienated much of the Halls of Herald, and most of Thera as well. He had gone from being known, to being hated. With a final show of his faith to his Master, Kaogalan, he stood before Chueh and called him a false God. He denied all the Gods, save for Kaogalan and defied them all. Chueh cast him from the Halls of Herald, forever marking him as the first to be treated so. He was branded a Speaker of Untruths, and a Blasphemer of the True Gods. But it mattered little, as in his insane state, he cared only for his Master's attention. Things were about to get worse, for both Karman and for Thera.

It came to pass that Kaylian, his love intrest, had become married to Qax. Driven mad with anger, Karman assailed her with a barage of accusations. Qax was no mage, far from it. In the end, he severed all ties he had to her and began to live as recluse. Steaming with rage and anger, he soon lost the last part of him that was the Karman his parents once knew. He pleaded with Kaogalan to allow him the Chosen Form, that he may show Thera the way. And so, custom relented, he gave himself over to Kaogalan completely and became Gehenna, a Demon gifted with cunning, trickery, and powers unseen in Thera for quite some time. He had become an abberation, an abomination, and was in Kaogalan's utter thrall. Now, my friends, this is where the story becomes that of legend. For what was to happen next, had never been seen on this plane, or any other.

Crazed with anger and hate, Gehenna hatched a plan even unbeknownst to his Master. Assuming a shadow form, he kidnapped the infant son, Sec, of Kaylian and Qax. Having heard Kaylian had died in childbirth, Gehenna saw his chance to make Qax suffer even more. He demanded the Crown of Chaos be brought to him, in exchange for Sec. He sent minions after Qax and the Heralds he had grown to hate as well, lashing out in anger. He spoke from the mouths of the undead, taunting those he hated while he demanded the Crown. Greed filled his soul, the Crown his only thought. It would be his downfall...

Surely you have heard the tale of how six mighty Lightwalkers trapped Gehenna and drove him from Karman's body... this tale is well known. But rumor exists that Karman still walks Thera, his body once again shattered and ill. But, surely, this cannot be true...
