Pali
There's a supernova happening, relatively, right now in the Pinwheel Galaxy, 21 million light-years away, which makes it the closest seen in about 40 years. It'll be visible near Ursa Major (aka the Big Dipper), best seen over the next several nights from the Northern Hemisphere, and will be visible through strong binoculars or a basic telescope. Fun fact: it'll end up over a billion times brighter than the Sun at it's peak, outshining the entire galaxy that it resides in.

Kyzarius
just spent an hour explaining the relativity part of pali's post. some people just cant grasp that light takes time to travel, and this supernova happened 20+ million years ago, and we are just now getting to see it as the radiation makes its journey across space. Imoutgoodbye
Hook 'em up with some Star Trek, Kyz. Even Captain James T. Kirk can tell them about light and travel. EDIT: Thanks for the tip, Pali. I enjoy sharing your articles with some of my fellow class mates and professors.
Pali
If you're looking for accurate science, do NOT go to Star Trek looking for it. And I run into a lot of interesting little things like this, I just keep forgetting to post them here. I'll try to work on that.

Demiterracotta
I'm confused how people do not know about relativity. Were you lunching with the pre-schoolers today?
inscribed
relativity is what you tell your girl when she finds out six inches really means two inches.
Pali
I'm confused how people do not know about relativity. Were you lunching with the pre-schoolers today? I'm fairly certain that most American adults would qualify as scientifically illiterate. It's sad, but true.
