Dexter

Anybody been keeping up with this show? I've been a fan since it started, and I'm liking how this season is progressing thus far and enjoying it's focus on religion, particularly given Dexter being one of a fairly small list of openly atheist characters in a well-known show (though I do rather dislike that a nonbeliever without major social or character flaws, like House or Dexter, is a rarity in American TV/movies... they crop up mostly in sci-fi, which is appreciated but bittersweet nonetheless).

SPOILER ALERT: I wasn't expecting the time jump of a year into the future, but they covered the lapse very quickly and well in the first episode IMO. Deb's promotion sounds like it'll bring a good deal of fun, and I am looking forward to seeing how they develop the apocalyptic villains - seeing Edward James Olmos again is revisiting a very fine vintage. :) Harrison being a bit older and starting to talk is going to start presenting Dexter with some new quandaries, as the kid already seems to know about his box... a little scene of him saying something weird could be funny later on.

Anyways... anyone else a fan? Liking this season so far?

Dexter has been renewed until season 8' date=' which will be the series final season. This season was the first part of a three season arc that will conclude the series. Season 6 finale = awesome.[/quote']

One of those areas where you and I are in complete agreement. :D

I thought season six was just, above-average. What made it for me was the finale, purely because it (should) change the way the show plays out in the next seasons, rather than following more or less the same format it has done so far each season.

Yeah. Especially as if you think about it, she doesn't actually know he's a serial killer - she's seen him murder somebody who was a threat to her and people close to her. It has the potential to go in any direction.

well you notice in the episodes leading up to the finale we had several opportunities for her to say she wished she had killed so and so, or that the world would be better without so and so in it. I believe a few times we had little eyebrow raisers, like oh yeah...then WHAMO season finale. So in classic Dexter fashion, while we are being captivated by the unfolding of the main protagonists performance, in the background we have the growing depth of character so we are equipped to accept what happens.

Though for someone like good ole Deborah, the only reason she hasnt noticed serial killings from Dexter before is because her Lundy senses have been blind to her all trusted always needed brother. Now, I think it would be bad writting if she didnt put all these missing villians together, Dexter's absenses, his proximity to crime scenes at times, all should be red flags to her detective mind.

Of course though, how she will react can be anybodies geuss, This show has created so many great enemies, cohorts, and peers for our favorite serial killer...My favorite though has to be Trinity. Lithgow is just an amazing actor.

I hope they do exactly as you described, as it will dramatically change the mould for season 7 if Deborah realises what Dexter really is, to some degree or other. What I hope they don't do, is write it away with Deborah not really putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, her thinking it's just Dexter killing DDK and having a couple episodes of Deb being troubled before 'accepting it' then Dexter moving onto some new antagonist as per previous series.

I want it to be a big deal. I -love- Dexter but each season follows the same pattern some way or another.

Its definitely not going to be written out. All of the background storylines introduced this season (the painted arm, the psychologist, and of course the finale) are setting up the arcs of the final two seasons. The director has already said the final two seasons are pretty much written and there will be many elements bleeding between this latest season and the final two seasons with a single overarching story connecting them.
