Evangelion
Dear Techie Friends, So I got off my computer two nights ago to go to bed, and when I came back yesterday, it had restarted. Assuming it had just auto-installed a Windows update, I went ahead and logged onto my desktop. What I saw appalled me - everything on my computer was gone. No program files, no documents, no nothing. There's a few bizarre things that stayed - like Firefox and Dawn of War II - but everything else is, to the best of my knowledge, gone. Please help. I have tons of important (and not important) crap on my computer that I really wasn't prepared to be parted from. If you have any thoughts or advice, I would greatly appreciate it. <3, Balinor
ulfurstolt
may seem silly to ask but did you ever make a backup file for your pc? if you did then you could reinstall everything you had from the date you made the backup file other then that think you might be ****ed. Evangelion
Upon further investigation, something managed to set all of my files and folders to hidden. Is there a quick way to go through and make them all not hidden?
ulfurstolt
which version of windows are you on? typicaly you can go EXAMPLE my computer right click on the drive, show all, and the files will return to normal though sometime you have to go through each file folder. Evangelion
Apparently there is a known malware that does this to one's computer. Luckily, there was a relatively simple solution online. Seems all I had to do to experience success was admit defeat.
f0xx
Seems all I had to do to experience success was admit defeat. That's the case most times.
jibber
I lost a lot of things in the last windows update too. However, nothing was set to 'hidden'. Mostly, I lost all of my tintin++ files (thankfully I backup my scripts online) and I lost a lot of music. Pretty pissed off, actually.
Evangelion
Has anyone heard of this Win 7 Security 2012 virus? It presents as an integrated security program that stops you from being able to run .exe files, provides you with a firewall error message that blocks you from a lot of websites, etc.? It was a huge pain in the *** to get rid of, and I'm still not sure it's fully gone...

None of my virus scanners could detect this virus. I even went out of my way to purchase full subscriptions from McAffee and Norton and they could not remove it. There is help online to remove this but it did not work for. After a week of non stop popups, fake computer crash messages, and random other things I just backed up all my important files and rest the computer to factory conditions. The Forsaken
It's removeable. I had got a version of it from downloading a bad torrent. Start your machine in safe mode before running your mal ware. There are instructions online of how to get it off, and it worked for me.
