Reloading Ammunition

Does anyone else here reload ammunition?

I just got into it with my brother, and so far we've reloaded about 1500 9mm, and just tonight loaded about 150 30-06 rounds. Got some 30-30 to do, and also just got a 12 gauge shotshell press. Probably going to cast slugs and buckshot to load and have some fun with.

Just wondering if anyone else here did this.

The main routes of exposure are ingestion and inhalation of lead dust. You can track it around on your shoes and clothes so be careful not to take it to an environment that is considered kid-friendly or if you have kids at home, change clothes and shoes. Wear gloves and a $10 HEPA mask with filters while you're casting and handling primers and lead bullets and you should be fine. I only shoot copper to avoid this problem, but it is quite a bit more expensive than lead.

Get a blood lead test at your doctor in a few months and if its bll > 10 you're getting exposed needlessly. If its bll > than 20 you are poisoning yourself. In kids, the threshold for poisoning is 10 but there is no "safe" level in the blood.

The Barnes X bullet is one solid piece of copper - no jacket. Corbon and Buffalo Bore have made use of it with great success and all testing shows deep penetration and consistent, reliable expansion with the hollowpoints. I prefer the DPX line but cost is a factor.
