Complaining.

Trick

Recommended Posts

This post is mainly going to be focused towards that select section of the playerbase that feels everything that happens to them in game is somehow wronging them or against them.

Recently, within the past month or two, characters have taken to a complaining, whining, and borderline out-of-character response to the actions of other characters. I am unsure where this attitude originated, perhaps a challenging and more developed PK talented playerbase created it. But, quite frankly, its ridiculous. Nothing in this game is owed to you and that attitude just makes you look like a trashy player that gets little to no respect from the playerbase besides your AIM/Facebook pals that you bitch and moan to and about so-and-so doing whatever to your character. In the past, we had a certain IMMs that would flat out slay you for acting that way. I've been slain by Sirant for much less. This game has become EASY recently in the form of rewards and what not. Don't disrespect everyone else and yourself because you are not as strong as you want to be in game or you can't beat some baddie.

In the famous words of Lay-About...

" Harden up, Princess."

How dare we make mistakes! How dare a Qclass hit me 20 seconds after a regular class! HOW DARE SOMEONE BEAT ME!

.. No, really. I've been trying to fix this for several months, but it'll never get better. I've decided to ignore it. Best way for my RP to flourish is to #gag {complaining f*ck} and go on my way.

I've had problems with this myself.

The thing is, that most of the complaining (ingame) comes from not so experienced players i.e. non vets. At this same time, those same players will usually act very cheap and trashy when they have the upper hand.

What I find worse though, is the out-of-the-game complaining thats sole purpose is to get your character in trouble. In recent days, as mentioned above, immortals have become very attentive and will investigate every complaint, no matter that sometimes those lack any sense. Players, especially vets, understand this and out of spite will try to get you in trouble.

I've personally seen OOC convos and agreements between players to complain about certain characters on prayer in an attempt to bring trouble to said characters...

I did a rem all/drop all/cabal leave confirm with my Trib Dwarf Zerk, Rhonjei, because of complaints against me. I find it hard to play if I feel my characters are viewed 'trashy' even if it's just anger from another after a legitimate move. Gave up a perfectly good character in it's prime. Maybe I should harden up like a princess. :(

I don't know how many times I had complaints brought against me, generally on completely false information. Usually from vet status players. Same with the whining and borderline (if not completely) OOC behaviour.

I can assure you, none of you would have seen me chuck a dummy spit upon dying. If I didn't think I could contain my frustration, I'd log out. Else, I'd just get straight back into it.

I have been cursed at, insulted and worse.

Nothing like attacking a Nexus member and having them send you tells about how you didnt know them, or you're to bloodthirsty.

Your in NEXUS, your an EVIL BADASS, this comes with consequences!

If someone came charging at you as you mowed your lawn, would you stop to berrate them for not sending a tell first?

I also hate how people will go around attacking everyone they see. That is fine in and of itself, but they attack someone, who is your friend. So then I come in, hunting vengeance for my friends death, and this big brute turns into a bubbling baby going on about how its unfair, and I just cant attack anybody, and Im lieng, and my reason is weak. They assume that just because they werent privy to the RP that it didnt occur.

I think we all just need to calm down. Not like in this thread but as a whole. It is a game! Despiser left because of this exact reason and im still a very sad panda because he was always willing to help me, even left me alone after he knew he could beat me to a pulp. Yes, there are time when I have felt someone could take it easier on me. Had one guy just beat me up 2-3 times a day, EASILY, like 2-3 rounds. Made me not want to log in & to be honest I didnt and havnt up to a week or two ago.

When your thinking of killing someone in game, think about that. Sure smack them around, take a peice of gear, but leave it at that. No need to beat on them constantly just to get that kill. It doesnt foster the growth of the player base at all. Sometimes it just takes you vets to stop and think.

No, I dont want this place to become healer island /w tea parties. Just want to have fun!

/endrant

noone ever calls me cheap, except that one outlaw I collected bounty on when I was thirty and he was 50. =p

Kinda like when a neutral Watcher goes around attacking evils like he/she is in the Knight cabal when there's an Avatar logged on at the same time.

I attack evils because they have been harrasing those with whom I have established rp relations with in my time back.

I am not a watcher, so I am not bound by those rules.

Though I have expressed a strict disgust of the Avatar, to the point of denying knights with supplies and attacking him. The demon and his cohorts have proven quite set on disturbing everything and everyone I know, they work together with the tribunal it seems. Thus they swing the pendellum against them.

Its not the reasons behind the fighting, its the immediate rertort people get when they are attacked by someone that drives the subject, and disrupts RP. And I agree. Wouldnt an evil badass cut first and ask later? If you have a problem with being attacked, just save the retort to the player, send it all to the imms

Exactly the point Kyzarius. Some players too easily think the worst and attempt to point there anger at the player behind the character and ruin the rp environment of the game rather than rp with the character themselves. And Awendis that example you pointed out with the bounty is just a small amount of hate over something ridiculously harmless ig. Imagine if you really become a good pker

The problem from my experience isn't really the new or old, it's how big of an ego the person sitting at the keyboard posesses.

My SINGLE player kill at 50 was a DK who was attacking me at cabal, I kept fleeing into my cabal guard and they kept following and getting smacked hard then I'd flee out dancing around back and forth, I wasn't sitting there camping, I was trying to buy myself time. He just kept following me back and forth even though I never entered my cabal, I ended up killing him and he took it OOC, HARD, when all I ever did IMO was make him so bloodthirsty stupid he threw tactics out the window. Did I exploit a mechanic? I honestly don't know how. Was the player behind the character at fault for his character death? You bet, if he'd left me alone and waited for me to leave my cabal he would have handily killed me.

I find this funny! What do you mean OOC' date=' HARD?[/quote']

Referencing everything from my mother to my lifestyle.

Swear words I had never heard before, and I give sailors a run for their money.

Also the mention of cheap tactics and cowardly also beating me up IRL came in at some point. I really kept expecting him to come after me again and win. (He would have, I think I may have taken one thing from his corpse to Lore it, but I didn't keep anything, and he out-geared me by quite a bit.) But the rage logout ensued after his tirade. Felt bad, if whoever it was reads this, I'm sorry. Hate making someone rage quit when all their gear was sitting there. :(

It's funny. I want everyone to have fun, but when someone goes OOC on me, or goes flippant about how trashy I am (happens a lot, mind you) I don't much care for their fun anymore. Why? Because it ruins my fun.

To the people who send notes to the leader of your enemy cabal because you felt wronged, well done -- you just went against your alignment. This goes for Syndicate sending notes to Tribunal about how trashy such and such was, or Savant sending notes to Warmaster about how trashy this dude was during some fight you had with him, etc.

When I see or hear about it, I have one thing on my mind: You suck. You lost, now you want to ruin that character with cheap lies. People play this game for HOURs on end (100+ hours is a LOT of time to put into one singular thing, people. I don't even put that into final fantasy, my all time favorite thing!) So when someone complains, sends notes, and breaks character because:

1. They looted you. (OMFG HOW DARE THEY TAKE STUFF FROM YOUR CORPSE. THEY DON'T NEED IT! THEY BEAT YOU WITHOUT IT!)

2. They accidentally interfered in a fight they had no knowledge of! (BUT THEY HAD TO KNOW, THEY'RE OMNISCIENT! THEY HAVE OOC TIES LIKE ME! THEY KNEW HE WAS FIGHTING ME!)

3. They killed you while you had a cabal enemy online, but you attacked them anyway. (THEY SEEMED LIKE AN EASY KILL, BUT SINCE THEY WEREN'T, I'M GONNA COMPLAIN AND SAY HE ATTACKED ME FIRST!)

Anyway.

A few things:

@ Kyzarius: "I am not a Watcher anymore, I am not bound by those rules".

You had good RP when I first spoke to you as a rank 30 something, your RP then was very pro-Watcher. I hope that you don't think that you should only have to follow your RP when you are a member of the cabal. It's your RP, which should be your RP whether you are in a cabal that demands you enforce it or not.

@ Everyone Else:

As an Imm I have access to the Prayer Forum, and as a player I am occasionally on the Facebook page. Without naming any names, some of the people in this thread need to tone down their "anti-whining" rhetoric. It's like Anume said: the most active complainers are usually veterans of the game who have fallen victim to a tactic they have often employed themselves.
