Astronomy

Alright, so I know there's a few physics fans here. I've always been a fan of physics, particularly astrophysics, but I've never really been into amateur astronomy as such. There's been a bit of an upsurge over in the UK recently with a few 'popular science' series that have done a lot to bring physics to the mainstream, introducing some of it's core concepts in an accessible way - particularly one relating to astronomy, which in particular piqued my interest.

The result is that I've managed to jump on the bandwagon with a really good bargain for what my research has told me, is a good entry level telescope. It gets delivered tomorrow, so I want to spend a fair bit of time getting used to how to use it and 'navigating the sky' before I go out to the middle of nowhere and brave that lovely British spring weather at night. :D

Any budding amateur astronomers here?

Smiley face in the sky.

Try reading "The Stars" by H.A. Rey. This is the same guy who wrote the Winnie the Pooh series. This star book for adults is excellent for explaining the basics of astronomy. It's got acclaims from major scientists from the day such as Einstein. Worth a read and it comes with star maps.
