hide/sneak success

It seems like it would be low as the success rate at 75 is pretty good. However, isn't a bit silly that we don't get a success message?

I'm a master of the night, skilled thief and mugger. I'm not entirely sure whether or not I'm hidden but some jerkoff paladin sure knows!

Even if it only showed a success message for 95% and up (or mastered) that would be cool.

Well, I don't think so. Think of back when you've ever played hide-and-go-seek. You dash for a hiding spot, hide, and think you are hidden. But in reality the only moment you are able to tell whether or not you are hidden is when you see the seeker, and he can or cannot see you.

It's a point we could argue forever. I just think it makes sense for a thief or ninja, classes nearly defined by the hide skill, to have enough expertise to know when they're hidden....at least at higher skill levels.

I can also imagine a thief thinking they're hidden, with barely a piece of their cloak sticking out of the shadows and giving their location away.

If the failure rate is that low I guess it doesn't matter anyways.

I think this stops the whole 'flee;hide' thing that every single ninja/thief does, forcing them to run a few rooms, and THEN hide. I don't think the traditional 'flee;hide' should be a way out of any situation.

And, Filth's explanation backs it up quite nicely.

PS: Can't tell you how many people I killed that thought they successfully fled and hid immediately, only to be one room away out in the open, and hurt. :D

I think it's fair to say that if you were to hide, as an expert you will have at best, a very good idea as to whether you've a good hiding place or not and this is reflected in the very high success rate when it's mastered. No matter how good you are at hiding though, what if I just so happen to look where you are hiding? As a hider, there is no way you can just -know- with 100% certainty nobody will ever find you - it's not in your control, but the control of the person who may stumble upon you. Hence why there's no message to the hider.

At 100%, hide is very, very reliable anyway.
