The-Nameless
On topic: Equipment CAN be a gap that is hard to fill but only if you let it. I can't tell you how many times I have lost elite pieces of gear, and pieced back together with less desirable pieces and got back to nearly where I was. I say again that I was able to hit 65/85 as a moderate ranger. which means 55/75 hit dam without a ranger staff. 50/70 without werepower. Those are *nice* numbers for a melee. Sure your losing out on saves, but if your smart, and not just throwing yourself at someone you can win with those numbers without serious opposition. Equipment has always been the topic of debate around here, and I used to feel the *EXACT* same way. The thing is after you have been here a while you will see that player skill always trumps equipment. I cannot tell you how many times I lost some bada** item I got on a trip that I could not have lead myself, and had no hopes of ever regaining that item if I lost it. After so many times you stop caring about Stormblade, and start bothering with Durindel, or the Vorpal. Why bother with Hells Fury when you can use Withering Scythe. Why am I after Adeptus Torso, when the Centurian's Hauberk is a very viable item. Why do I want a Monorod, when I can grab Thunderbolt. You will learn after you have had more time in game that equipment can be compensated for. Knowledge, and ability to see the lines you need to take in a fight cannot be compensated for. Do you have any logs that show what EQ you had at this time? Those are wicked numbers and it would be cool to know what to go looking for.
tassinvegeta
I personally hardly ever look at my opponents eq anymore, I find it almost pointless with the exceptions of looking at them to judge there saves' strength or weaknesses in there weaponry. Guys like Hit&Run and Mindflayer aren't who they are only because of eq. No matter what they're wearing when I'm up against them I know its going to be a tough fight. The-Nameless
Rings: Studded slave collars from Rheydin (3 dam -1 dex) Helmet: I honestly don't recall (prolly horns of cthluhu) Torso: Centurians hauberk or Thunderhead, armor of nimbus wrists: Frost burned bracelets, bracelet of everlasting hatred Belt: Whatever you can grab for +dex (since there are not many plus hit/dam belts for neutrals, acid sheath is good for good/evil) necklaces: Rusted medallions legs: Tentacle leg plates feet: again I cannot recall. About: I usually use this to make up for the -stats, since alot of the gear you are going to get is - stats. Bow: MAHN TORS RAGE. Farming the bolts is teh suk. The rest is AWESOME. Now next is a bit of gear that is going to need a trip, but the gear is almost always in: Arms: Bracers of Serpents- Traian from Dischord. Most headed out that far are not going to bother with these. very useful. About: snow leopard pelt. Great + damroll AND + dex. Again very useful since a fair bit of the + hit/dam gear is -dex. Adamantite boots: These are actually pretty sought after, but you can usually get a pair. If your going on a trip with anyone, I suggest asking for these as your "prize for going" the other stuff is usually left on the ground and noone will say anything for grabbing it Tips for trips: When you form up your party for gear, everyone is going to say "I want this, that and the other" Chances are that shiny adeptus torso is spoken for. What do you do? I will tell you. Take the rest of the "crap". There is always a set of spiffy leggings outside gear, Almost always a good light with saves, almost always a decent healing and + svs item for about body, 3 item sockets, a shield, a polearm, and a lightning spear that grants dual parry. Taking the lesser wanted items serves two purposes. Number one, you get paid. Number two, the others in the group know your not a greedy twit and you will get to go on other trips. RE: I checked and don't have any access to logs with Kadrinath's gear while I was moderate. The log of Heiku vs Kadrinath is a log while I was an uncabaled moderate (it says I was gladiator E, but I was not even in warmaster yet since i was still using herbs for detect invis ) so you can see my output there. Granted that is with bonuses from wolf, and ranger staff. All that I did was pour over ID files. Jibber has compiled quite a few items on his FL Wiki, I recommend browsing over that, any files you have, and PK logs. RE: Tassin Spot on. Gear is very rarely a sign they can stand strong in a fight. Kurvikhel ROLLED my filthy decked Elf Paladin who was wearing "the best" gear possible in every slot. I then pieced in a balanced suit, and it worked far better for me, as I was not going into a fight thinking my full suit of shinies is going to handle the PK for me. -Totenkopf-
EQ isn't the be all and end all, I've killed a decked Nexus Cariousus with a mithril & power staff equipped uncaballed ogre warrior. I've killed a decked Barnok or Moriath (cant remember which it was now, one of Despisers ninjas anyway) with little more then teeth necklaces, onyx rings & a clock glaive (that weapon that changes types). HOWEVER, you need to be super careful (ie, if its not going your way flee early and flee fast) and basically wait for them to make a mistake. Sometimes if they are over confident this is more likely to happen, but with most of the top dogs around here, that isn't going to happen very often at all. Thats what makes people good, being completely aware of the situation and making no mistakes. I know I only managed to squeeze Nara out of protective shield once and lag lock her. I had been watching the duration on her shield the whole fight (as I do with almost all caster/communers I fight) and had the command ready to go. This only ever happened once, thereafter, she was gone hours before shield was about to fall and either cancelled and renewed or waited in hiding. The vets don't make many mistakes and with a huge eq disadvantage, you'll need a mistake to win in most instances.
TheKid
This went way off what I wanted it to be, sorry. My main goal was to see why all the goods go on all the big trips and not the evils. Rarely have I seen evils planning a trip to gear, shoot when I played Ramahli I tried and tried to get one going but everyone was always busy so it never happened. Now as a good I have been there like 5 times heh.
Implementor Anume Posted March 10, 2012 Implementor Report Share Posted March 10, 2012 As to promos: Usually we will look out if the Imm is not active, however oversights can happen (this was indeed the case with Foxx's Savant for example). Some Imms also promote much faster than others. Then you can be lucky and your cabal imm sees you fight against heavy odds and you get promoted FAST or you do the same and nobody sees it and nothing happens. In general the "do good and talk about it" - without bragging !! - is what you want to do. You can also act in a way that makes your cabal Imm decide not to promote too fast (e.g. logging if the odds are against you repeatedly, fighting only those you have no problem with, etc.). Anything over T also requires you to rp. You can do your cabal duties alright but if there is no rp at all, your chances to ever get E are slim. As to eq: I've pked better decked people in cabal outfit before, it is doable you just have to pay attention. Against some people this will just not work however. In this case, try to retrieve, run for it, get a bit better eq, repeat. Nobody is demanding that you suicide. Merchant outfit is slightly better than a cabal outfit. There are some non rare items around that are very very close to the rare for the same slot.
