Pali
Anyone else been having fun with this game? I haven't finished my first playthrough yet, so no spoilers please, but if anyone agrees or disagrees with my current opinion that this is a truly incredible game, feel free to comment. Mindflayer
I'm thinking about picking it up. A friend at work told me that the story line in all three games is consistent with the decisions and choices you've made in each one previously. That's really cool. TheKid
I have not played the other ones but have played a little with the Beta for this one. The game is fairly ok however I find the one mission that you can play in multiplayer to be a little quirky, could be just on beta though. Overall I think I am going to pick it up and play some more as I like the idea of different classes and the ability to pick your skills etc.
inscribed
You're going to end up spending more money on DLC than you did on the game itself. Don't forget to buy the mobile game too! EA is bound and determined to get consumers to spend 150$ on a 50$ game and won't rest until they've accomplished it. I'll pick this up if/when it hits Steam, and all DLC is included. Otherwise, there are plenty of other games to play.

I have the feeling I'm going to be replaying the earlier ones just to see how the different decisions play out in 3. You're going to end up spending more money on DLC than you did on the game itself. I highly doubt that.
TheKid
Whats DLC? Walmart has it for 55 bucks, Psn has it there for like 60 I think.
inscribed
I highly doubt that. Day 1 and they already have a 10$ piece of content ready to go, unless you were "smart" enough to spend an extra 20 on the collector's edition. And that's day 1! Not to mention you have to buy the mobile game to complete the main game's story. There will be much more to follow. Fallout set the bar with four chunks of DLC at, what, 10-15$ each? There's no way Mass Effect will be outdone.
Pali
You do not have to buy the mobile game to complete the main game's story. Whoever told you that was misinformed. You also do not have to buy DLC if you choose not to.

Pali
This game took a terrible lashing on metacritic... Have you noticed how many of the user reviews (positive and negative) are posted in a time period where it is literally impossible for those people to have finished the game? Critically the game is being incredibly well received.
inscribed
I boycott it on principle. EA is getting worse and worse about nickel and diming consumers as much as possible by cutting out completed content to sell separately and encouraging developers to alter their games to allow for as many future DLC packs as possible. The only way to fight the trend is to stop buying games at launch that are specifically geared towards DLC. Wait a few months, buy the GOTY edition, or skip the game altogether. Unfortunately, this won't happen, since EA apparently has most gamers by the balls and will spend whatever they are told to spend for a complete game. inscribed
If Final Fantasy 6 was published by EA today, Mog and Yeti would of been sold for separately for 10$ each and most of the endgame dungeons like the Phoenix Cave and Odin's Castle would of been sold at 15$ each. Don't worry, you don't need them since they aren't part of the "core" game.
Tantangel
I never got into the first game. My friend let me borrow it like a year and a half ago and I have yet to even finish maybe an eighth of it. I own the second one with all the DLC and I haven't even touched it yet. I think I'll wait a good while before bothering to buy this game, and at the rate that Netflix, FL and work all consume me I honestly probably shouldn't even buy any more games for a while. Mass Effect doesn't, nor would I say Fallout did - a game that has 50+ hours of content pre-DLC isn't something I'd view as DLC focused. But if you want to avoid one of the best sci-fi stories of this generation on principle... Your loss.
inscribed
I'll pick it up in a couple years when EA packages the entire trilogy + all DLC for 30$. I've got plenty of games to keep me occupied in the mean time.

Demiterracotta
I played the demo for it so I could get Kingdoms of Amalur goodies. Thought it was fairly decent. I'm like inscribed though, since I didn't play 1 or 2 I'm going to wait until they bundle everything together and I can pick it up cheaper. Raargant
Avoid it on the basis that the ending is utter ****. Yes, I'm bitter.
inscribed
Avoid it on the basis that the ending is utter ****. Yes, I'm bitter. I definitely called this. Don't worry, they are just setting up future DLC that will give you the "real" ending, and people will be forced to buy it because they are upset with the original ending. Pali
I'm impressed, Raar. Killing a 40-50 hour game in under five days? I'll let you know my opinion on the ending when I get there, but so far I'm finding it entertainment that was well worth the money.

I'll let you know my opinion on the ending when I get there, but so far I'm finding it entertainment that was well worth the money. I have a habit of skipping through cutscenes after I read the text (which speeds things up). I also may have done two all-nighters. My recommendation? Once you reach the penultimate stage, once the final big battle for Earth is about to begin....stop playing. Go read or write a fanfic. Make it up in your head. Pretend it was nothing more than the wild fever-dreams of a hanar. Make up your own epilogue for your story. Write your own epilogue for Wrex, the Krogans and the genophage...for the Quarians and the Geth...for those who were honored by the work of a very model of a scientist Salarian. It'll be way more satisfying than the way they ended things. It's precisely because the game itself was so great (nay, the series!), that the ending was so unacceptable. I had invested too much over too many years in these characters to have a crap ending like that. It reminds me of how I felt when I saw the ending for KOTOR II...except way worse. I've totally lost faith in Bioware, because they got me invested, emotionally and time-wise, in a great story over these years...and then, in the last 10 minutes, pissed over everything my Shepard had done and rendered it all meaningless. I've said my piece. You'll see.

Pali
Well, having finished it now... I gotta say, Raar, I do not agree with your take on the ending. Granted, we may have had different endings, but... *shrugs* I liked it just fine.
Imoutgoodbye
Never got more than three hours into Mass Effect. Bought Mass Effect 2 the day before 3 came out. Enjoying the Renegade/Paragon pop-ups during cut scenes, but not entirely sure I fully appreciate the game yet. Guess I'm just die-hard Dragon Age Bioware. Reskins, really. Did you wipe out the Geth, wipe out the Quarians, or make peace? Did you make peace between Turian and Krogan? Did you re-genophage? Doesn't matter. Same damn endings no matter what you did.
