I'm with Mali. I play as though I expect nothing when I die, and anything left there is a bonus. If somebody kills you, they have every right to what they have.

The best lessons I've learned here are the ones when I'm down on my luck fighting in junk trying to make it happen against the odds.

It can be hard to not be frustrated, but something to think about.

Atticus,

I really liked your character and I hope your next one keeps at it. To be honest though, I thought you were slightly a noobie. Not because of your PK.. but because of your RP. There were times when your RP was great then the second lets say you died it would go right out the window. No more RP.. just all caught up in emotion and doing the hole brain to mouth thing.

You Character also give off this kinda a**hole kinda guy.. because lets say you died and you were full looting (Which probably could have been for strategic means.. lets say the person your facing was outnumbered or what not) you then would wait by pits and attack them once they sent themselves home knowing they are fighting multiple people.

Now.. hey.. this is all apart of survival of the fittest but I am sure you can understand that if you did that to someone, they would considering that a duchy move and not care to much about your well being moving forward.

I recently was full looted and ganged and I didn't even get upset to be honest. I kept at it, got some basic stuff and tried to rock back.

I remember someone saying once if you try to focus slightly on RP more then PK then you find that it doesn't bother you that much when you actually die.

All in all.. roll with the punches, when you turn on your RP it's fun to watch and makes you want to be a part of, also I am sure if you had decent armor you would be a force to be.

Take some time and I can't wait to see you again on the game.

Just keep in mind that his has happened to many of us Atticus. Just take a few days off to cool down and come back. I can almost guarantee that you will be stronger if you concentrate on learning from mistakes and not focusing so much on your emotions. My character really like yours and really went out of his way to help Embros. Things might've been different if we were at war and I might've turned out to be one of those vets who you hate right now. So just try not to take it so hard and remember not everyone does things to personally hurt the player behind the character.

Slightly off topic I remember getting so mad once. Thieves were on a rampage and I was playing a drow dk noob. I got killed in 3 hits! I thought FL was broken and took my longest break ever, with the intention of quitting for good. It was only after I was calm did I start to realize my mistakes.

1. Poisoning yourself is a staple.

2. You can save practices and convert them to hp.

3. Theirs a thing called AC and rares that increase it.

etc, etc.

If you have any questions. Please please do not hesitate to ask and feel free to pm me.

Take some time, forget about FL for a while. Trying to learn with a fire giant warrior... dude, you are way braver than me. I see two vulns, and the need for eq and wince in agony. I know people have done it, but dang.

I think just about everyone has a favorite class that fits their personality and play style. Except some of the super-vets who are good with everything. I know rangers have huge survivability, great solo ability, and a huge power spike. Sweet! I effing hate them. Worst class ever... but that is just me.

Maybe FG warriors aren't your thing. Chill, come back, find what is, then kick some ***.

PS : wow, just learned that certain words get auto *'d. Never knew that.

Lets see here. Where shall I begin? Alright. Dont take it too personally Atticus. My last few characters have caught me a great bit some disgust from the pbase and for what you might ask? Simple use of a under-rated skill (charge). Whether or not you are full looted, just chill and take a quick break. With Slinore and even Ulthar there have been multiple times of full loot. I've been accused of using triggers upon many other things. All I do is laugh in the face of people who honestly think I was using triggers. For years I played mages because I thought they were simple. It really wasnt until recent that I have began to pick up melee..... and I've played since AR (Abandoned Realms, for those who dont know). I've only had one quest anything which was an Avatar (Ghrundor, Dwarf Cleric Knight) and Ulthar is my FIRST Elder. I can admit I am not the greatest of RP or PK, but there have been times where I have busted my ***. Look at Slinore for example... a minotaur turned half-tree. His legs were composed of tightly wrapped vines and his weapons were very unique as well in his description. Slinore was intentionally created to rid the realm of Oppressant (sorry dude, but you hoarded way too many rares for way too long) and he never really had a RP plot behind him. He was created almost with no thought, but everything was derived from within the game. Dinh was a Watcher, yet he was a "tree rapist"...who knew... ROFL. Ulthar has lost duels to immortals. I've died to characters that I have had no interaction with what so ever. Perhaps you should take some time to over look many of the PK logs to think of what you are doing and/or not doing in battle. One major thing I can tell you with ANY melee is, CONSUMABLES ARE EVERYTHING. Most other classes have the ability to do most of the things you are REQUIRED to gather. Perhaps if you are not prepared for the battles perhaps you should retreat and gather what you need whether it be a battle plan or some items. Even weapon choice makes a huge difference. Like for example, battlemages are weak to magic so do not use mundane weapons. Undeads are weak to holy. Maybe sit down and study which combos of races/classes have such said weaknesses so you know how to use them to every advantage.

...back on topic

I think what you're hearing here is a lot of people who have been here for a while saying the race you chose is at a HUGE disadvantage for a new player. I recommend something like a neutral halfling ranger/blm if you really want to learn melee aspects. You get some magic resist, no major vuln except size but you can make up for that.

Otherwise, like you mentioned in an earlier post...a druid. You can locate things and are extremely survivable. And, with the proper cabal choices, can be pretty PK-efficient.

Don't give up because you played a race with huge gaping vulns and weren't successful. Hell, I've been here over 10 years and still can't stick to melees (mainly cuz I'm lazy and get sick of consumable farming) :P

Fire giant melees are not easy, especially when you're fighting your bane ALL the time. I made The-Nameless' life a living hell when I played Klemsor, just because I could. Looking back, do I feel like a jerk? Yeah. But sometimes when you get the PK rush of being on top, it goes to your head a little and you let loose on people over and over again.

Big point that was made earlier: don't take in-game commentary to heart. Sometimes it's RP, sometimes it's someone being a dickwad. But either way, the sooner you can get to the point where it doesn't affect you, the sooner you'll be ahead of MOST of the playerbase.

I'd suggest trying a cleric or, as you said, a druid if you want to learn the ropes of intensive PK. Pick a cabal where you're going to get a lot of action (don't try to join a cabal that's already on top - although that's kind of a misleading statement, since by the time you train and pinn things will likely have shifted). Go Syndicate or Tribunal - you'll always have work to do and you'll learn a LOT. Plus once you get the hang of things, you have some bangin' abilities to back you up.

Hope you decide to keep playing (if not this character, another one) and good luck!

Roll a halfling BLM in stalker next time. Works better :)

Just watch out for mindflayer bash draining your mana while you've been psi-skilled :P

I would like to respond to Bali lol.

Klemsor vs Azzar was not terribly fun, but mainly because I accepted the fact an invoker was going to deal alot of damage to an FG zerk so I had to think outside the box to get the upper hand. had I not stuck with the character for a while, I never would have taken the time to try some slightly more outlandish tactics to get the kill. Letting you have a free ice storm while i had sanc down was a pretty clear cut "mistake", so when it happened Klemsor was balls out for the kill. I used that bloodlust to bait him, and it did pay off.

The point is your going to get *wrecked* fairly often. Mindflayer used to suck, H&R used to suck, I just recently started to suck less, Deykari still sucks 50-60% of the time (the other 40% he blows your ****ing mind).

Keep that in mind when playing. You keep playing stuff not til you find a class you can play, but til you realize how to play each class. You cannot play a DK like a warrior unless your already full up on malforms and a demon, even then it is not effective as other tactics, you can't play a BMG like an invoker (which is why I suck with them, I firmly believe all mages work like missiles, point, click, boom. Hope you got ehm, if not reload and try again) You can't play a thief like a war, can't play a shaman like a cleric etc etc. Each class has little curves, little tricks you won't ever learn until you play it, you just have to accept the fact that the cost of learning those tricks is also learning to equip yourself mighty fast.

I would also like to reiterate that FL feels like EQ is a major part of the game play and character effectivity, but it just is not true. Once you get over atatchment to armor, and weapons, your going to have a much better time playing here. Equipment is a bonus, but it really is not the be all end all. my first barbarian was a fire giant zerk who was perpetually in a cabal suit (not the neat new one you get, I mean the actual one you buy from the cabal store for 3-10 cp, brass crap rings etc) and I just stopped caring about eq cause I lost it all the time. I was then promoted to T, and began to grasp skills, and espescially how they synergize with other cabal skills, and my own racial skills. Once I began to rely more on the skills than the equipment things just changed here in FL, and I have only gotten (slightly) better.

The-Nameless gave some really solid advice there. Learn how/when to use your skills/spells-this cannot be stressed enough. Factor in your racial bonuses (fire giant-extra damage dealt while wielding fire weapons, bonus to bash and two-handed). Now add your cabal perks from additional skills/spells and cabal equipment. Once you've got a few winning strategies down, THIS is when you spice it up with the proper equipment. Like he said, the equipment does not make your character. It is your planning and strategy. The problem you face is that most of your opponents have already developed excellent strategies. They have been rewarded through PK with amazing equipment to further benefit them. It's an uphill battle but if you chose to stick with it, you'll gain knowledge, respect and one day, the upper-hand.

Also, I dig your "flame titan" roleplay. Just don't let your emotions get the best of you. Trust me, I KNOW it's not easy when you've been PK'ed and full looted four times in an hour. If I die and I'm full looted, I generally take a break for a few hours and just get some fresh air. It helps me from rage deleting or breaking roleplay. Glad to hear you're sticking with the character. Remember, you can only get better.

If I die and I'm full looted.

I wasn't going to comment, but this just made me laugh. Yes, we all know you die (once.....twice a year maybe?), but who in their right mind would leave YOU with a shred of armor to come back and stomp them with? Burn it all I say! Sacrifice! Sacrifice! Sacrifice! At least then I'd get what? maybe a half-hour or so before you're decked out again?

P.S. You know I love your chars. Please don't PK me!
