I left Forsaken Lands a long time ago, having played this game since the days of dial-up modems. I think back on my time here with fondness, and I decided I should give it a go again. Just reminiscing evokes feelings in a way that no other game does for me; people like Pali, Totenkopf, Draconian Poet, Lay-About, and many other stands out in my mind when I think back. Characters such as Martineius impressed me and inspired me to try and improve in both roleplaying and player combat. FL itself offered full immersion when compared to other muds and MMO's. Although it is possible to find niche roleplayers, Forsaken Lands is the only enjoyable mud I came across where people don't randomly go out of character for pretty much any reason at all.

That said, I hated dying. Death was often a harsh setback, especially in underdog cabals. Chosing the wrong fight - or even being forced into a fight at your cabal's altar - could mean the end of weeks of careful gathering of equipment. Unlike other muds with full-looting, I was not able to get a full (or even competitive) suit of equipment back without investing a hefty amount of time and energy (either rares were not available or I could not find the group to gather them).

Race restrings, descriptions and the emote system were miles ahead of other muds at the time, and only a few have even begun catching up. In short, Forsaken Lands appealed to the roleplayer in me. The PK system was a bonus, and I've come to realize how balanced the equipment, class, and race setups eventually became when compared to single player combat in other RPG gaming environment.

Forsaken Lands is simple. No level of scripting is necessary to get going, possibly with the exception of rolling for stats for your character. There is no advanced curing or attacking. The world layout is fairly simple, with few 'football field' type of areas where you'll never find the person you're looking for. It is free, unlike the IRE muds I played for the last few years. And still, it is deceptively complex. It literally took me years to muster up the courage to apply for a qrace, and when I got it I felt like I was in way over my head. That is my only regret having played this game. Giving up on the character I enjoyed the most out of all of my characters. Sheer frustration got the better of me. Eventually, I moved on to other games and haven't looked back until now.

Enough with the rambling. In my memory, Forsaken Lands is a glorified combination of imagination, conflict, and immersion. I've returned with the hopes of experiencing those memories again. I just hope I have the patience to not give up at the first setback and go back to SWtoR.

See you all in game.

Welcome back, you'll enjoy the changes that have come and I strongly advise you to look into a moderate character. That will help you with equipment, but also allow to PK competitively. Promotions and rewards come with determination, so you'll see benefit to not giving in too quickly.

It's good to see you return. It's always a cherished moment when one of the family comes home.

You say you hate dying? I need Heralds and I don't believe in coincidence. :D

(Everyone dance! It's the opposite of a...what's it called...Rick Roll?)

BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF AABAHRAN!

One of the flock has returned! The Land of Promise has flung its Hell Laced Gates open with the crackling of dead leaves wind blown across a head stone's granite surface.

Rejoice and join me as we pray in the psalm of the Baptism of Blood...

As it is written in Brehan 13:4: "And none shall leave that have not drank deeply from the well of greed, for the soul is a shrewish thing upon which no mortal shall visit the shadow of deprivation. For Greed is naught but the power of wanton joy lest the madness engulf the mind."

Yes, Brothers and Sisters, in this communion we may all rest assured that we have the free will to worship in the House that Virigoth built.

Welcome back!

FL is great and yes why go anywhere else when the best is here!!

Cabal Update: They could have more members but this is what I have been noticing day to day. I

Watchers: 2 to 3 Active Members

Nexus: 2 to 3 Active Members (Including a Leader)

Tribunal: Was dead for a bit but looks like they are coming back.

Syndicate: 2 Active members

Savant: 4 Active Members (Including a Leader)

Warmaster: Slowly declining. Maybe 2 Active Members. Once had 4 to 5 always around

Knights: Had 5 Active membes at one point always around.. Only noticing 2 to 3 now.

Heralds: 1?

Fine Print: Logging in roughly 2 to 5 Hours daily for the past Month or so. Some days I have logged 12 hours. All hours of the day thus no specific timezone.

General Info:

There are a lot of Melee's around. I am talking about... typically on any who list there will be 4-6 Warriors out of 14 people or so.

So don't create a melee heh.

Also a lot of goodies but I am noticing that this trend is changing as we speak.

Merchants can provide you with a merchant outfit. They got two different outfits, one for pre 42 and one for 43 - 50. The high rank version is slightly better than the cabal outfit.

All cast outfits, both merchant and cabal, crumble on death.
