Twinblades713
I thought it was a rather nice sentence. D: And without your help, it would have meant nothing.
Valsgarde
The game wasn't engineered for 18+. It happens to maintain a larger adult crowd than not, that is because we've simply stuck around. Is it necessary to use profanity in the game? No. Why? Because there are more creative ways to get your point across, like everyone else has said. The fact that the game wasn't made for 18+ is irrelevent because we're almost exclusively 18+. Is it necessary to use profanity? Maybe not for you. To me, doing things like calling dwarves "left handed elven girl" is hyper, ultra, off-the-richter-scale lame. I feel like Eminem of all people articulated my feelings on cussing/not cussing in FL very well: "Will Smith don't have to cuss in his raps to sell his records!" Yeah? Well I do - so f*** him and f*** you too.
inscribed
Dude, you're playing a MUD. I wouldn't worry too much about what's lame and what isn't. "My guy uses the f-bomb in this MUD I play! I'm hard like Eminem!" This is a game based on text. The point should be to become eloquent enough in writing to find something better to say than mouthing off a couple of middle school curse words. Valsgarde
I didn't say I use F-bombs, and I didn't say I'm "hard like Eminem". I quoted him because it was apt and funny. The point is not to become eloquent enough blah blah blah. It's to have fun. And if you want to play lame characters? That's on you and it's your perogative to do so. I elect to not do that. inscribed
You sound like someone complaining that they can't play a jedi or a romulan even though those would be way less lame than some elf paladin. Some things fit in FL and some things don't. Flagrant cursing is one of those things that doesn't fit and only serves to detract from the atmosphere of the game. If you don't like cussing? Then don't do it. We're grown ups, I don't even know why we're having this discussion about whether not we should be dictating how other grown adults speak. When/if rampant cussing becomes a problem, let's address it then. As long as it's in-character, I truthfully don't care what anyone does in game. Trick
You're arguing a point that really doesn't matter simply because it's not going to be changed. If your character utilizes profanity and you have never been addressed, then you're fine. As for your "freedom" thing, yeah sure lol. It's been addressed before that the Staff has the rights to take away the thing we are arguing. Speech. They will dictate what you can and can not say. Why? Because they are in charge, that's it. What I'm doing is discussing the notion of this being a PG-13 server, and what that actually does and does not mean. It's a broad, vague statement, and there has been much inconsistency and contradiction on what it translates to as far as in-game conduct is concerned. Bimpni gets it. He seems to be able to have dialogue on discussion of the rules without getting panties wadded - a skill I think several of the people in this thread would do well to invest some time into mastering. Make your points without making personal comments' date=' please, or this thread will be closed.[/quote'] Not quite sure why discourse will be stifled, or what purpose that will serve, because certain people are rude. Why not just punish them?
