crackwilly21
Aabahran: The Forsaken Lands by bromonation I have played this mud since September of 2000. It is easily the best fantasy based MUD of all of its competitors listed in the top 20. Why? Mainly the common-sense world layout, the equipment areas, enforced RP(except in some cases), and the ASCII color scheme. It sounds cheesy to name ASCII as a reason, but in reality it is the #1 reason. Carrion Fields, ranked far above, and its peers have horrible ASCII schemes and if they ever had the common sense to clean it up I would play there. The immortals and a large number of the high-volume forum posters who are also vets of the game are a travesty. The exception would be Behrens, who I think is IMP but not sure (if it is not him, it is Malch who is virtually forumwise an absentsee/silent partner). Behrens actually seems to geniunely give a darn and who also presents himself with a pretty good degree of class and calm. The rest of the group is little more than a zombified group of cheerleaders and glorybaskers in most grotesque form. Many of these people are the same people that clog qrace and cabal leadership slots. At the moment, RP in the MUD is broken. Due to an Undead/Vampire led cabal named TRIBUNAL that affects the RP of the MUD, from SAVANT all the way to HERALD. It's gotten so bad that a HERALD cannot even scribe a disparaging note without earning a WANTED or even OUTLAW status. HERALD is a cabal whose very job it is to scribe notes. The concept of TRIBUNAL (which is the city-law enforcing cabal)was actually great for allowing evil aligned characters to join. However, making an Undead(and Vampire qrace no less) the leader in a cabal that also employs a Vampire's antithesis (a Healer) royally screws RP. And add in the fact that freedom of speech is now punished by WANTED or OUTLAW status is really messing up the flow and is bottom line wrong. The immortals and vet lackeys are staunchly dismissive on this subject. FL code is public now, publicly availabe and usable. I encourage anyone with server equipment to load it and start a MUD without the FL name, even if just for permanent public testing purposes. You will see what a masterful code this MUD is. It is a true gem that far outshines anything else in the ranking list. *growl*
Tom
Ugh, but I would honestly encourage whoever posted that to make themself known. I have a coupla theories, but I'd like this person to grow the stones to identify him/herself, just to get a dialogue open.
Fīv
I disagree with a few of the latter points, especially the Trib-Herald stuff as that has been changed. But to the beginning all I can say is, "Reap what you sow."
Malchaeius
Discussion of this would only lead to flaming. It is a waste of time. If you would like to do something, I would urge players to not respond to this. Instead, write your own honest review.
Chayesh
Heh...ASCII color. Try ANSI color. ASCII is a type of field-delimited text file.
