Mali
Do any of you know how to scramble an IP address so that what is reported in game is different than what is reported and recorded here on the forum? I like to get into my characters role-play, but I've had an issue with immortals having need-to-know only information about who I am. Frankly, I fear bias and am thus hesitant to play without an anonymous IP. Any help is appreciated.

Evangelion
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tact Easily one of the funniest things I've read on this forum in a long time. I give it two thumbs up.

Pali
Gotta love it when paranoia extends beyond the real world and into the video game world...
jibber
Kind of with you on this, Mali. Not sure if you're being serious or not, but the Immortals will -always- know who I play because they keep tabs on my IPs. I feel very detached when creating new characters, lately, because I know some IMMs hate my guts.
Bimpni
We only look up i.p's when its necessary to do so. i.e. the character has done something questionable, is not logged on currently for us to speak with, we look up the i.p. and speak with the appropiate player. For those of you who think we're watching -you- that closely, first off, don't look outside. Its not important why you don't look outside...just don't. However, ask yourself these two questions. Am I am able to access the game? Am I able to access the forums? If the answer is yes, to these two questions, then, you're apparently not as disliked as you think. If the answer was no, then you've been designated a problem player, have already been banned, and are viewing the message via a different series of i.p's then have been banned. Implementor Volgathras Posted April 28, 2012 Implementor Report Share Posted April 28, 2012 This again. Listen, I try to be as professional and understanding as possible. I understand that sometimes people get frustrated, and may feel singled out. We don't share our disciplinary actions with the general public, and this can lead to these kinds of accusations. Once again, we do this for good reason, and it's been discussed AT LENGTH amongst the administration. We DO NOT hold bias. We DO NOT single out players due to personal feelings. We DO In part base our system of rewards and punished based on your past and current behavior. This means that if you've consistantly been a problem to the community (again, to the community, NOT the administration) there will be reprecussions). Is this really something considered so absolutely unfair? The world we live in bases systems of rewards and punishments on our behavior. Further, these decisions are completely transparant to the staff. There are no unilateral decisions. even in the HIGHLY unlikely situation that one of our staff was so blatantly unprofessional as to single someone out tor personal reasons Every imm would know. And I for one wouldn't be afraid to call someone on it. If it seems like this has struck a nerve, it's because it has. I'm beginning to take these accusations personally despite my personal drive to remain professional and objective. Each of the staffers here work to the best of our ability to bring this world to you, the players, for YOUR enjoyment. We don't get some perverse pleasure from calling out cheaters. It is NOT fun staring at logs of IP addresses. We don't sit behind our screens bathed in the light of our LCD screens drooling over the prospect of yelling at someone, and it makes me upset to think that some of you look at us that way. I spend my days standing in front of students who are constantly trying to piss off the teacher because when they lose their cool, the kids think they win, and sometimes the place I come to provide a small group of like minded players a place to unwind and enjoy a fantasy world ends up feeling the same way. Well congrats, fellas, you win. Edit for clarification: This thread was closed not because we want to curtail your freedom of speech. It was closed because we don't condone the practice of hiding your IP to circumvent our legitimate concern of watching problem players who we (the WHOLE staff) have determined to be caustic to the enjoyment of the playerbase as a whole. If you feel that you are one such person, work on your behavior and community involvement to rectify the issue instead of blaming everyone else for your shortcomings. Not that it matters, we'll find out eventually anyway.
Implementor Anume Posted April 28, 2012 Implementor Report Share Posted April 28, 2012 In many cases, looking up an ip is not even necessary. Some players will always behave the same, e.g. make the game not fun for others and we'll get complaints no matter what they play. Other players will rp the exact same way no matter if they play an elven paladin or a demon dk, also not hard to determine who it is. When we look up an ip, we do it mostly bc of "I bet this must be soandso's new char with all these complaints coming in when they haven't even hit 50 yet." We also do it when a player has been given multible chances at a qrace already and has every single time managed to mess it completely up -> caused us a lot of time bc we had to yell at them and punish them (no, we do not enjoy this, it is our spare time that is wasted here). In general, we do not treat anyone biased. Volgathras has made a post that expresses very well the frustrating an admin of this game will often have to suffer. We've lost numerous Imms bc the frustration started to outweight the fun already. I ask you, the pbase, once again to not aggreviate the staff intentionally. It's not to your advantage if we do not have enough staff to give every cabal an Imm and to rp with players either.
