My brother is a staff sergeant EOD. If you have questions' date=' I can put you in touch with him. Going EOD is difficult, but if you like blowing stuff up and can handle all the stuff you need to remember under pressure, it may be right for you.[/quote']

EOD was my original choice when I was joining the military. As a member of the Army, I could have it right away. Had a friend joining the Marines, well, I guess Marines don't get it until they reach the rank of Staff Sergeant. Comes with nice pay, nice bonus, and when you're done, you can blow up buildings as part of demolition crews as a civilian. ;)

i am going into USN. the Navy, as an AO.... anti eod lol. i get to build service and maintain missles ballistic and otherwise, along with mount and dismounting from aircraft ranging from sea hawks to fighter jets. during basic however i will do all i can to try out for AIRR- aka SAR, rescue swimming. i give mad love to all of those who do, and have served in the name of freedom, democracy, and this great nation I call home. now, it is four days before basic- so i go 30 miles from shy town to train for 8 weeks. a drop in the bucket compared to my six year enilstment. goimg for twenty if fate allows it. God bless, God willing, God speed.

I just re-classed to medic and dental tech. Ill be doing my 2nd term enlistment soon. God I'm getting old.... I'm getting mobilized to camp Shelby coming up in October... i was really wanting to do the Halloween madness too:( I've missed it for the passed 3-4 years now cause of military ****:/ btw Military is a great choice! its something that will prepare you for greater things or even a great carrier you only need to know four things! Right place, Right time, right uniform, and do what your told.

What branch' date=' Sandbox?[/quote']

i'm currently airforce, been in for 7 years this enlistment was my "2nd chance" for the military, i think i've given up on it. I miss having the ability to get a new job when i had a jerk for a boss. In the military you just have to deal with it until they pcs. Unfortunately most of the idiots who cant get jobs on the outside are the ones who end up in charge.

I went in as 11X (First Group as X Instead of B or C) and right before finishing AIT signed up for sniper training. I failed out of sniper training (No shame, was some rough stuff and things I didn't want to mentally put up with.) I then rerouted to Airborne since in the end I didn't want to be just a standard ground pounder. On my fifth (and final) jump in Jump week I landed a bit weird and twisted my knee. Nothing big at the time and was able to limp to the end of Airborne and got 2 weeks bed rest. Then went straight into SOPC (Special Operations Preparation Course) and then into SFAS (Special Forces Assessment and Selection). This is where I found out the real damage to my knee and going down a steep incline on a side slide I caught my foot slightly on a root and twisted my knee again, with the previous injury I shattered most of the nerves in my knee. I spent then next 4 weeks in the hospital and another 2 weeks in RHU (Return Home Unit).

The reason I explain all of this is one thing. If you followed the story you will see I never went "Active Duty". Therefore I am stuck with my OWN medical bills and the Military pays NOTHING because I was never on active duty.

It was a great experience though and something I will never forget. It taught me alot of life lessons and other skills I have been forced to use in my life. I was jumped two times by 2 people (I lived in a bad part of town) and both times been able to defend myself with great ease due to the close quarter combat training I got while in.

I hope you get a lot out of your time in. Just make sure you go Active Duty before you sign up for more advanced training.

Just remember, despite what anyone says, don't draw attention to yourself, don't volunteer for any special duties... just keep your head down and blend it. After you leave bootcamp, no one will care one lick what you did there or whether or not you volunteered to be a leader or what special little awards you won there. Any NCOs that act like they are trying to be your friend... they aren't. They're just looking for dirt on the other NCOs. Just blend it and don't draw attention to yourself... my best advice!

Couldn't have said it better myself. I was assigned a leadership role in when I went...talk about getting yelled at lol. I left strong as hell though, getting PTed every time someone messed up will do that to you lol.

Take the leadership spots. Be a man. Show them how tough you are. Later in life' date=' you'll have neat little rewards to throw at the "darned whipper snappers" in your front lawn. Can never have too much ammunition. :D[/quote']

You don't get anything for it. Not in basic training.

Not true. You get a better throwing arm at the least.

Yeah, you get smoked. That's it. From personal experience I can tell you, basic training is survival. Besides, you don't get to "pick" your role in the military. They throw you into them. Can't do it? You get smoked harder and replaced. Can handle it? You still get smoked, but for longer.
