Demiterracotta
And forcing people to vote is terrible as well. Not only is it a violation of a person's individual freedoms, but the people you'd be forcing would typically be less educated and more prone to vote for the candidate with better face time.... i.e. more money. I believe everyone should have a voice regardless of their background. Not saying you don't, but you sound awful cynical about the deal. I try to believe if people are forced to make a choice they will always inform themselves of the choice. And if the only way to get those people to vote is to make them, so be it. But that's just a personal opinion. Probably wouldn't work well in practice (just like I think a mandatory military service much like Israel should be implemented). inscribed
I'm against government forcing the individual to do anything... I'm a libertarian. Everyone does have a voice if they choose to exercise it, forcing them to exercise it is another thing completely.
Demiterracotta
My personal votes are for libertarians hoping we can go back to a free society. I just have no hope in the matter and decided awhile back if we're going to have a law for every little thing, we might as well do it thorough. (now which of us is cynical)
Pali
I believe everyone should have a voice regardless of their background. Yes, but part of having a voice is being able to remain silent when you choose to. Forcing someone to vote is forcing them to say something when they may prefer to remain quiet. And I hadn't started paying attention to election results until now, inscribed. Was too busy finishing Assassin's Creed 3, which I thoroughly enjoyed... I'd give it around an 8.8 out of 10. inscribed
Time to start building sea-based cities free of other governments and institute autarchism. Democracy is going the way of communism. Good ideas at first, but inevitably lead to tyranny of some sort.

inscribed
Well, voluntarily signing a contract knowing full well what my obligations would be, in exchange for pre-negotiated pay and benefits (both stated and unstated), is a perfect example of how things should work, especially in an autarchy. It'd be something different if I was forced into the military. In my case, the benefits I'd be able to accumulate was worth the six years I'd have to put in to obtain them. Pali
Oh, I understand - in point of fact, most of the military people I've known tend to land more often than not on the libertarian side of things. I just enjoy irony, even if it's only apparent rather than actual.
