I am genuinely curious what the signs of someone faking rp to get points are?
Rank time.

Unusual conversation out of the blue towards your char, someone asking vague questions that force you to explain your entire existence when you have never met or interacted.
Normally id think that was fine and dandy, but, with people scouting for RP points to enhance their chars PK ability its just annoying. I truly feel that fake RPing with people for PK bonus gain and abilities is abusive, why? Because it can be done to people who dont have the knowledge of what they are participating in.
Hey look, a newbie, let me log this RP interaction with no chance of death since nobody is on. (the gods grant you x RP points), cool, now im gonna go spend it on PK uppers... I dont like it at allll. I personally think edges should be granted every 100 in game hours for playtime, not forced fake interaction.
Example: You have accumulated 100 hours of playtime, 1 edge granted.
Any chars on life support get nuked, real chars that play get their come upins ;)

The increase in RP quality has been massive with the introduction of RP points. Whether they are doing it for PK abilities or for legit RP doesn't matter.
FL is now less of an RP enforced and more of an RP rewarded. It takes away negative punishments and replaces it with positive reinforcement. Personally, I don't care why you RP, just that you do. Failing to RP at all ruins my experience, yours, and everyone else's. RPing for points at least keeps up the character identity.

I disagree. Quantity has gone up however.
I agree with UC. RP points make me not want to roleplay. Next person who rps with me is getting full loot/full sac.

Yeah exactly my point.
How do you know anything about another persons motives. Thats why I said it was stupid UC.
I randomly rp in tells or otherwise with people all the time on all my characters and always have. But because there is some reward, that must be why.
I just don't see it personally. People would be vague or want to talk about their entire existence far before the invention of role play points. Especially those sitting at 30 waiting for a quest race/class.
Whatever someome else is doing with their character doesn't bother me. Different people have different styles of role play, different levels of skill, and each character should be seperate and unique from their last.
My mom is filled with drama. She is the type that would talk about her entire existence to strangers to try and prove how much drama she has to deal with. I usually just chalk those characters as being like my mom... Drama. ?
This is promoting RP. At the end of the day, whether it be PK motives or not. I've had most of the edges. Didn't see much of a change, honestly. There are two that I recommend people buy: the blessing/warcry buff and restful body.
Other than that, I will probably spend my points, if I get any, on renaming EQ, building a house, doing the relic quest, or doing Anumes gear thing.
People complained that RP wasn't rewarded. The Staff implemented tangible rewards. Now people complain that people only RP for the rewards. You guys just refuse to be happy.
My eyes bleed because of what I am reading.....
Lets clear something:
A couple of years ago, the biggest complain was that a lot "silent killing" was happening. It was the number one reason pointed out by people leaving the game. After many many years of experience with "enforcing" RP, the staff decide to try a different approach.
They went for the carrot, instead of the stick. They decided they would promote RP, instead of punishing those who didn't, by awarding RP points to roleplayers. With those RP points, the people who bothered to enrich the atmosphere for us all, would be able to buy small PK advantages, namely the RP necklaces and the edges.
Nowadays, thanks to this system, the environment has improved greatly. Threads like the one @Unknown Brother created recently haven't been a rare sighting. The first thing everyone who's been away for a long time notices, is the much better RP everyone is trying to push. As a whole the atmosphere has improved dramatically.
But now some people have stepped ahead to say that they don't like the system. That people roleplay just for the PK advantage RP points offer them. Due to this, they feel, the quality of RP has dropped.
Not just that, but as stated by @Unknown Criminal, they even feel used when someone tries to RP with them.
How can someone use you, if the IMMs award RP points to ALL parties involved in the RP? Not just the one who submitted the log.
This system in place promotes two things: Roleplay, which improves atmosphere for us all, and longevity. How can one even try to present those two things as something bad?
It's beyond me, honestly.
The only downside to this system is that it is heavily dependent on the forum. But I honestly see no reason why would that bother anyone who is playing by the rules.
That being said, EVEN if you don't want to submit RP logs or write journals, you can still get them in 2 alternative ways: 1) by doing quests and 2) by helping people rank. Just to give you an example, I very recently had a character that had received 0 RP points awarded by IMMs, yet he had collected over 200 of them. Which is more than enough for all the small PK buffs that matter.
Lastly, if the RP system in place disgusts you so much that you want nothing to do with it, you can STILL play the game, at a highly competitive level even without buying a single purchase requiring RP points.
F0xx and i agree.
All others are now wrong by default.
?
A Iittle dramatic there f0xx, nobody said the RP system disgusted them...
Silent killing hasnt stopped, i ranked up a few alts to try the classes and got immediatly jumped by 3 top cabaled chars. No other reason other than good vs evil or evil on evil trying to wax a fresh 50 with no edges in rank 30 gear ;) Yes i expected it, no im not complaining because thats life in a PK mud. :)
We cant really say the actual RP has gotten better over the years or with the introduction of the points, reason being is that the playerbase is small and consists of longtime players who know how to stay in character. This isnt a bad thing, its a great building block, question is 'how can we take advantage of that to llre new players'. :)

Dude, do you actually know what the edges do? Do you realise how insignificant and situational they are?
One gives you -25 AC. Another gives you like 2 hit/dam/svs. Another improves your HP regen by 10 or something....
And to buy those you need like 250 RP or something...

Sooo an extra titanium fullplate and regeneration, pure crap i know... Why would i think that would make a difference in pk, nobody could possibly benifit from an extra torso.
Thanks for clearing that up for lil ole me ;)
UC
I still don't see the problem, considering the cost, considering the fact that anyone can achieve that (if they put in the effort), considering that those who have them make the game better for everyone with their RP.
Also, if you think that an extra titanium fullplate will suddenly make you defeat all your otherwise undefeatable enemies..... then I am sorry to burst your bubble, but they will hardly change anything. You know that, I know that, everyone who has had a character with a positive PK ratio knows that.
It's really silly to present those stats as such a game changer in game where they are heavily outshined by a simple bless + armor consumable, which most players don't even bother getting.
So again, what is the problem?
Nice try at a 'playdown' but if they were as trivial as you say people wouldnt bother getting them (because they are sooo expensive), they would just go for that simple bless and armor consumable.
I also didnt say it was a game changer, you keep sticking words in my mouth to make it seem like im going ape over something to further enhance your playdown tactics, if word manipulation was a skill you wojld be at 101 ;)
UC
Well you did act like people just rp with you to make points so they can be badass in pvp.
Honestly people who want to farm rp points will just spam journals.

You are contradicting yourself all over the place man, I don't even know how to reply. Choose a stance so we can have a conversation like grown up people.
I think this is the first time I've EVER heard of someone complaining about RP... This is ridiculous...
PLAY THE FUNKY GAME. Jesus Christ. Everything has to be an argument, debate, or discussion. Its not unfair. Its not "just for points". You're looking for a reason to bitch. Knock it off and just enjoy the God darn game. I swear... some people would bleeeeeep about getting a free hundred dollar bill because its not in five twenties.
Remember when every time someone spoke to you out of the blue it was to get you to speak so the hitmen knew where you were?
Its so much BETTER to know they may be pushing their RP agenda instead.
You realize that when you feel someone is "fishing" for RP points, they are by virtue offering you an opportunity to gain some too?
But if taking time away from your PK lifestyle to RP with me is so annoying, I will share my points with those who appreciate what RP can do for them.
