New change when sleeping mounted!!!

A new change has been implamented where if you sleep while mounted you will take damage for falling off your horse. While the damage is not that great if you do it at the wrong time (say when hurt alot) it could cause your death so it is up to you to make sure you are not mounted when sleeping while hurt it could be the death of you. So do it at your own risk.

Well, hopefully this means that you'll wake up when blackjacked or slept due to damage. ;) You know, for the sake of realism and all.

Oh, and maybe we should implement delayed sleep. You know, it takes four rounds to fall asleep and another four rounds to get out of bed. -dex for sleeping without a bedroll on hard terrain. Auto insect swarm for sleeping without a mosquito net as well! We could also require that you have to remove your equipment and drop your inventory somewhere before sleeping.

I would laugh if it caused you to wake up. But I never leave home without my poison either when I have a feeling a Thief is about. Otherwise I don't think I'll much like this change for the most part, at least currently. I'll probably get used to it over time. I would think an unmoving horse if you fall asleep on in real life you wouldn't fall off. At least I wouldn't, but I have times where I fall asleep and the slightest movement I make I wake up, especially if I'm power napping it.

Now does it also lag you when you sleep like that because after all it does say bodyslam? I can only imagine if you were in a PK and you're hoping to get a quick tick in and you forgot you're mounted that you suddenly find yourself even more screwed than before.

I don't think there is any lag, I just REALLY hope it doesn't wake you up from a blackjack.

Hey I can speak from experience having sleep apnea sometimes you just fall asleep wherever. I have fallen asleep at my keyboard before and a couple hours later WHAM my forehead on the edge of my desk. Then I have to explain what happened to my kids in the morning as I now has a dried bloody gash in my head. So I can so see me falling off a horse if I fell asleep while mounted.

Can you say that the majority of FL characters suffer from narcolepsy though? And to justify the damage with such things as protective shield, physical armor, or just simple coordination (much less the superhuman levels of all three that all PCs enjoy)?

And even if the (very weak) case of being realistic could be justified, which I don't think it can, being evidenced by entire cultures who have been known to sleep on their horses (mongols, anyone?), giving credibility that it isn't very hard (physically) to stay on a horse while asleep, and that it may have actually been a -common- thing to do..

..if all that were somehow justified, I don't think you could convince me that it has any gameplay benefit at all.

I'm very interested in what discussion the staff had before effecting this change as to what benefit they thought it would bring.

Before you know it, poison will make you sleep more, rather than waking you up (realistic, but a useless change, if done in isolation)...

You'll have to take breaks after a single round of fighting, because it isn't feasible to be involved in hard fighting for more than 1/7 of an hour (think of the most conditioned athletes in the world after they fight for just a few minutes--and they aren't losing lots of blood and they don't carry gear).

After that, we could put a realistic limit of a few dozen kilos in carrying capacity, with not being able to have an inventory at the same time as holding objects...

These are all realistic changes (which I don't believe falling off your horse for a DISMEMBER is realistic at all), but don't positively affect gameplay.

Heck, if you didn't want people sleeping on horses, put a bloody timer on sleep due to your adrenaline, stopping people from the catching a tick strategy that we have. I think such a timer would be a stupid change, but even that change would have a stronger argument than what I can imagine there is behind falling off your horse every time you type sleep.

I have never fallen asleep and fallen off something at least not since I was a kid. I have only ever once found myself on the floor and that wasn't because I was sleeping, I wasn't paying attention to where I was at in my bed because I was so tired that I rolled over and off my bed. Otherwise even falling asleep in a sitting position I've never fallen over. The most I have done was rolled my head backwards and snapped out of my daze.

Now I wonder if flight has a play in all of this. Would flight prevent you from receiving damage? If not, why not?

It is horrible, When you are mounted horseback you can fall asleep on the horse and I am pretty sure 9/10 you won't fall off your horse. THAT IS WHAT A SADDLE IS FOR. Not only does this not make much sense, as you can still MEDITATE while MOUNTED, so please do share with me the logic behind this change.

It's a terrific change! We had lots and lots of discussion on it. We, as a staff, decided that this was for the best.

By the way, if you all believe this is a CHANGE, I have some ocean front property in Montana I want to sell to you for the low, low, low price of $1.4 million per acre.
