Imoutgoodbye
I should be slamming my head repeatedly into it. (Note: This is me complaining, so read no further if you do not want to hear about it, fair warning. ) Get to my Pedagogic Grammar class to Team Teach a lesson on pronouns (I know pronouns, I use them all the time, I even read the text book, created a lesson plan, note cards, used outside sources) and completely, miserably, utterly failed at it. Horrible mix of conditions: 1. My Team Teach Partner only made one meeting over 3 weeks, blowing off two of them despite me explaining I could only arrange one meeting per week and we HAD to stick to the day we agreed on because I can't find babysitters last minute because he wants to go skirt chasing or practice with his band. Needless to say, there was definite disorganization despite the fact he helped create the lesson plan in the Week 1 meeting. 2. When I revised the lesson plan and created the hand outs (by myself) I was running a fever. The lesson plan came out fine, but the hand-out I created was, well, let's say the written instructions didn't match the lesson plan and I had to add verbal instruction. Ironically, the written instructions were slightly ambiguous (Ambiguous Antecedents, anyone?) 3. After 2 weeks of watching people use note cards, I had some ready. When I get to class, my professor informs me points will be lost if the note cards come out and she chose that day to address people using them (after 4 groups have already gone). Granted, teachers generally don't use notes, but I have seen several professors and teachers with notebooks full of outlines and notes to help keep themsleves on track. I was still sick on this day and this was a death blow to me, I struggled to not have a full-on panic attack and made it through this while being video taped (I hate being taped). Regardless, I'm banging my head against the wall because I can't make excuses. It's still MY fault. It didn't matter how disorganized my partner was. I was willing to let him sink to a degree. I have to learn to overcome being sick. I have to learn to overcome my anxieties. You never know what monkey wrenches life will throw at you. I had four weeks to familiarize myself with the jargon and critically analyze it to the point where I could create an engaging activity. My professor showed me how easy it was to engage the class after the lesson plan by writing single pronouns on the board and having the class race to see who could quickly write the most information about the pronoun down (person, number, type, subj/obj, dep/inde, etc...). Amazing how college students aren't really that different from 13 year olds. Damn, I just feel so stupid right now.
Mali
Dude, stop worrying about things. Chances are you did better than you perceive. At the end of the day, this will be a learning experience for you but with little ultimate significance to your life. I would advise you to select a program of study that is career focused. Celerity
Who uses note cards when teaching? To be fair about grammatical knowledge...13 year olds don't tend to have much more knowledge than 5 year olds either. Any age can use it...nobody knows the metalanguage unless they had some reason to study it, which has very little to do with age or education level, but instead to do with utility. Just because you don't know what a modal is or the rules that govern them, you sure use them all the time in daily speech. I wonder what your prof was trying to teach you in this activity... btw..I absolutely hate team teaching! And I know the feeling of being taped...I was just recorded myself. Tantangel
The difference between you, Awendris, being taped was for an entirely different reason that Valek was being taped. You like to review yours to go what you did wrong in the sack, where as his is probably just camera shy on everything and wouldn't escalate to being talent scout material at least not yet.
