A safeguard against D/C's?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So I am just curious, is there any way to safeguard against players who loose internet connection while on FL? I had an instance last night that caused me to die due to my internet dropping. I use my cell phone as a mobile hotspot, and from time to time, I loose 4g, and then my hotspot shuts off. The only way to get it back up, is to reboot my droid, which takes about a minute and a half. By the time I get back, I am usually dead.

Is there any way the FL server could tell you lost connection and protect you from PK? I know this is probably a dumb request, but I figured it was work asking.

Thoughts?

P.S. I lost internet twice while trying to submit this thread. :(

Easily abusable, but such thing is a must, imho.

In a game where death can set you back BIG TIME, some kind of safeguard against internet drops should be available.

From my experience, such thing exists already, but only works when your blood is not rushing, and it's not very good at detecting when your internet drops.

Its extremely discouraging, when having a character with 70-0 PK record to take a death from internet drop.

Slightly off topic...

But loosing malforms that you worked on for months suck. After finding out exactly how many kills you need during Halloween Madness, I don't know how anyone maxes out one of those things. They should make it so it doesn't decrease levels.

My experience mirrors yours - I'm positive I've walked in and tried to attack someone only to get a message essentially saying that they can't be attacked because they're AFK.

It takes some time to trigger - ergo it won't save you if your connection cuts in the middle of a PK. Depending on the length of fight sometimes you can tell and stop the assault until they recover. Often it happens all too fast though.

And more often the person your fighting does not care.

I have had instances where I was fighting someone, and went linkdead after round one, came back to a looted corpse. I have instances where I was not even fighting and came back to me at my pit, and my armor sacced.

I have also had instances where someone has actually stood at me and waited for me to returnt oask if my mind had recovered. Moments like that make me extremely happy. The ultimate act of class IMHO

In the instance I just had, the player was VERY classy. He could tell I had lost my connection (as he found me standing there with no sanc up, and not responding/fleeing/doing anything), and even though I died, he returned my things, even tho we are sworn enemies. I was very pleased to know that there are still some classy people out there. :)

I catch anyone doing OOC things because it's "classy" and that person will be going over my knee faster than he or she can pull their own switch down from the tree.

To further explain this, it was directed more towards the returning of equipment to a sworn enemy, i.e. vendetta enemies, Avatars returning equipment to evils, Vampires returning equipment to Avatars, etc...

Hrrrm.

Just curious because I am not sure, what cabal do you run? Also, you would want your members to full loot/sac if they know for sure that the other player was DC'ed at the time of the kill? That sounds a bit rough to me, just my opinion.

No worries' date=' Herald never has any enemies. Though I wouldn't mind seeing an Avatar Herald running around. Kills the scourge of Aabahran and then writes tomes of the epic battles.[/quote']

As a Dexter fan, I have no idea why you would want to violate Rule #1 of the Code. If you leave a book behind about you are certain to get caught.

As far as doing the classy thing... I've totally been punished for it before. I was pretty upset about it too, because it wasn't strictly against my character's RP but the RP of the cabal that my clan fed into. I would do it again too honestly. The situation was a hard coded vendetta'd cabal dude died and apparently lost his link. I come by the corpse outside of his PK range but the corpse had passed into that phase where finders keepers applies. My character was technically a survivalist and no good survivalist turns up his nose at free tools to make survival easier. Few minutes later the unfortunate enemy of my friends comes back and ICly explains the situation. I dropped his gear in an obscure spot, notified him of the location and split. This was not against my character's RP either as he was also a blood swearing Blademaster and his first vow was to act with honor where no other would. He was a Sacred Oak and believed dishonorable action was actually demonic hold on the person being dishonorable and if anyone remembers Edicaln... he didn't abide no friggin demons. Long story short, I got double demoted in Sacred Oak after having risen to T in literally a few days thanks to fortunate log in times that happened to be when Grimulfr was on and we got to do a lot of RPing. I was SUPER surly about it but you know what? I got those ranks back and got into Watcher. Viktor Frankl wrote that by facing your suffering with dignity you give your life and your suffering meaning. Now I will not pretend a clan demotion or two can compare with his experiences in concentration camps, but the point is the same. So what if Elrozin rises up from the depths of the ghost town we call the Herald cabal and drops the switch on you a couple times? Reraise him with even better RP that cannot be ignored and you'll still get what you want... and you can sleep at night knowing you weren't "that guy" that you hate. We all have one character we couldn't stand because they were "shady" in our eyes, so don't become that person if you don't want to.

Aabahran is a different rule set than the laws of the real world. You could brag about doing so in some cases and the only thing you'll have to worry about is A) if it was done in a city it was breaking the law so you could be wanted for it or B) if you killed someone with very powerful friends then it could be painful if you can't kill them. If the game were based more towards nowadays then I probably wouldn't write tomes about it.

I guess it depends what you consider cool. I think some of the Herald skills can be pretty dope on the combos. I'm not super familiar with what I can and can't say... but it definitely can be a boon to a fistful of classes. I do not believe there is anything that specifically says a Herald can't PK... at the same time, you kinda wanna keep relationships with the heavy hitters of your time so they actually give you the quotes you need to write your story to fall back on my journalism classes.
