A Question

Hello..

I have a question. Please answer honestly.

As a not very experienced player, i try to learn, i try to be better, but one thing makes me mad. One player enters the game. Directly comes to you, Finds you and kills, you lost some wear you hardly found, and left the game. Another enters the game, directly comes and finds you and kills. Your first meet become your death. Any RP?? No!! you see and you die. Here is the question: Are you calling each other ? and telling 'Hey here is a newbie, come and kill' or you kill with your one char, and quit it, enter other and kill one more time? Or something that i can not imagine?

I understand the frustration. There are certain characters right now who worship Death and are, to put it simply, to kill anything and everything. Unfortunately, it is in some of their RP to be big, angry deathmachines. That being said, they should -not- multikill you, report that if it happens. I suggest learning the geography of the lands (items, hiding places) to help you get away. Never be afraid to run, no religion says that you must die (except maybe Death :P). This game has a steep learning curve, but it will be well worth it, I promise. Just try to delve into the RP sense of things and learn the PK slowly, that is how we've all done it. Dying is a part of it, unfortunately, but you'll find that with every death you can learn something from it: when not to enter a command, which path to -not- run in, what preparations to have it, which items (armor and weapons) to use against your opponent (or your most battled opponents or that which is best for your race considering vulns). Find an ally who will mentor you, that iwll help a great deal. Also let it be know to your aggressors (in an RP way) that you are new, they will often times fit that into their RP and be easy on you. You must, for the first few characters, not take deaths so seriously. That is the BIGGEST lesson to learn in the PK world. We all die, often at first, fewer times when experience sets in.

Everyone has brought up the points I would make but I would like to co sign it. For every 'trashy' character you see theres five to ten that will give you the shirt off their back to help you along. I say this from experience in the years I have been here I have had more good times than bad, thats why we keep coming back character after character. Spark said it best with 'delve into the rp' aspect of FL it can be awesome, learn the pk game as you go and you will see your deaths decrease. I am still waiting on mine to start.

He said it best a moment ago, if you are caballed its going to be a very tough ride. I would suggest a ranger in Warmaster to begin your pk experience. Yes you will die......alot but thats also where you learn alot of things. Log your battles and see what you did wrong. If you think there is no rp after you logged perhaps think well maybe I logged out too soon. Perhaps initiate a little and see if it is indeed silent before making assumptions that it is just someone being garbage. Also if you are being multi killed (aside cabal warfare) log it and post on prayer or pray and see if someone can watch what is going on.

EDIT: Also not knowing the situation of the incident entirely it is hard to make a determination of things as there could be several aspects not entirely seen.

I'll try to give you some ideas and pointers (beyond what has already been said) from my experience as to how this seem supernatural but is really just an experienced player's skillset:

1) Are you ranking? There are only 3 - 6 places anyone ranks at for any given rank range. If you're good you can't rank in certain places so this cuts it down even more.

This means if someone logs on and sees you in PK range, it will take a grand total of around 5 minutes to check the ranking areas.

2) Type 'reputation ' This shows their reputation - which is basically a guage of what monsters you have mass killed recently. Guess what, most ranking area's contain one kind of monster and you can tell where people are by looking at this. No need to check multiple area's now.

3) If you're not ranking (assuming non-50) you're probably training. There are 2 main areas I know players train skills. Grand total of 1 minute to check these.

4) Level 30 Human Dark Knights (

I can't stress this enough - Lvl 30 Dark Knights have most weapons, can get equipment alone, may have the fireball spell (which is hard to counter at this rank) and may have the summon spell. They are killing machines at rank 30 and most of them know it. If you see one near, move away and send them a tell. If they do not respond assume they are looking for you. If they give you some smart-@$$ response assume they are looking for you. If they say they are not looking for you assuming they are lying and in fact, they are looking for you.

They are not invicible - but they are strong and hurt. Decide if you are going to 'stand and bang' with them or run. Decide quickly and do it. If you want to get into how to face the class put a thread on Ideas or PM me and I'll give you some basic tips.

A group in the same PK range makes life difficult for others - no one wants to face off three players to get to one. This can assist.

Apart from this, a steady supply of detect invis and recalls will serve you well. Stay mounted and don't forget to re-mount once you recall. Find 2 - 6 places you think are hard to be found in and go there to hide once you have escaped. You'll learn (though painful experience is the only way) which hidey holes work the best and which don't.

Cheers,

L-A

PS - I'd still put what happened to you on Prayer - players logging in, finding you and then logging off only to have it happen again. Could just be bad luck (so don't go assuming OOC just yet) but its something the Immortals probably want to monitor. Do them a favour and nicely post about it and they will do there thing. You can get back to your thing - enjoying the game.

I'd like to elaborate more on what L-A said as far as training. As far as training goes, depending on what you're training, I'd go way out of your way to train. If it's offensive spells, there's a great many places you can go to train them that no one would ever think of going to train and you'll literally be impossible to find unless they think of it too. If it's defensive spells, there's off the beaten path places to go to train them too that no one ever thinks about. These places are your friend when someone is trying to PK you and you know you can't win or don't want to let them jump you to try it. If you know you can beat them if you were prepared, run off, heal up and come back swinging. I've done this many times and when people think that smart mouthing is the best way to get you back, chances are I am just around the corner and as they're telling you how much of a pansy you are for running (after jumping you unspelled and still didn't manage to kill you), they're the ones running and probably will log off shortly after.

There's no point in dying if you know all it's for is for someone to get that +1 to their PK record. If it's for Cabal Warfare on the other hand, well you can still run, just keep on coming back and at the least get your standard back. Generally the only time I ever broke that rule was when I was lacking in time and wasn't expecting to be bamboozled by having an enemy or three online and just me.

not very experienced player' date=' i try to learn[/quote']

A advice for you that are new here. When you do not understand something in game, ASK. Yes, not all will answer you, but most of us will. And some will give you a helpful hand.

By the way a L30 Dark Knight goes by the Title of Knight of Legion, on the Who list.

Also play what ever you think you will have fun with. When you are happy and wish to make a character mainly to learn, then follow our advice. My first character was a blast. Supper fun, supper "I don't need no stinky sanctuary in PK" :D

It was only after ~7 characters that I bothered to create a character intended for exploration and learning. And managed to do something in PK.

Not that you cannot do it with your first, but you just need to think what you do, and learn from your mistakes. Log everything so you can understand what happened to you, and why did you died.

Take it from another new player:

1) Use MODERATE pk first time around. People will be unable to loot your non-rares. MAJORITY of the gear you will be stumbling upon as a new player is non-rare, and thus you won't have to worry about loosing your equipment.

2) Banks in the town have STORAGE LOCKERS. This was ground breaking when someone told me about this. Put extra stuff in there, and even if/when you get full looted, you can be good to go with solid backups.

3) EXPECT to die. My first character, I knew I was going to get steam rolled. Therefore, it never really bothered me when it happened. I just kept on trucking to max level so I could do two things:

- Explore the map at lvl 50 (so I can handle most mobs and reach more areas). Also you have more moves to travel with. Note: In hindsight, would recommend rolling an AVIAN for the autofly so you can move all over the map exploring.

- Practice PK. Get used to fleeing, chasing, stocking up on proper supplies, equipping, etc.

*** My second character was a LOT better having built upon the knowledge from my first character.

4) ASK questions. Yes, people are correct in saying that this community loves and openly helps new players. I got SOOOOO much help from other players, immortals, forums. I'm sure I tore peoples ears out with my constant questions through private messages and aim, but I am improving at a great rate as a result of everyone's helpfulness.

5) READ the forums. I learn a lot from reading other peoples questions/answers in the newbie section. Also the player essays are a great place to start.

Rest is just experience experience experience. As in the words of someone else when I started, you wont learn unless you jump right into the thick of it. At first, I was dying like 5+ times a day. But boy was it gratifying when I got my first victory. It will come in time. (NOTE: I only got pk'd that much because I was in a situation with many natural enemies)

And yes, if people are abusively multi-killing you for no apparent reason, you should probably note to immortal or prayer forum it.

IF you are level 50 and in a cabal. Dont run from your opponents. Fight them openly and they will quickly realise that you are new instead of just avoiding a fight. I will often be more ruthless with an opposing cabal member if every chance they get they quit out and dont fight me.
