Aging

Well, if we get too far into this logic of realistic age...an 80 year old man would have strength of like 5 and wouldn't be able to dodge to save his life.

I just think that the system should be removed because it is just tinkering at something that need not be messed with and probably couldn't be handled right in the best of situations.

For RP purposes I'm totally happy with some line at the bottom of a your description that shows your age, etc..

Because an 80 year old elf would be what, 12 years old in human terms :P

;)

gotcha!

I think there are alot of positives and negatives for this aging thing. One it forces people to consistently play a character they care about as well as makes things more realistic in game. However I think the rate of aging for when you are not logged in is a bit over done. Let's say I create a character flush out a good rp angle and real life interupts and I don't have the time to log in for a month. Well by that time, I am either going to be real happy if it is a none melee class, or pissed if it is say an ogre or giant. I believe there are probably other factors that change as well when you age to make it not so much of a problem, however I do not know what they are, or how truly benefical they may be. This is a MUD and it is not D&D. I understand the reasoning for wanting to make the game more realistic and playable, however I think that the aging thing perhaps needs some tweaking and/or needs to be removed.

-And that's my two cents worth

I have to say I agree with Cephirus. There are positives and negatives to the whole aging process, but I think the only ones to see any of the positive effects are the races/classes who are longer lived and magic users. I created a new character a little over a month ago, two at the most, mastered skills and such, and before I know it I've already experienced my first loss as a result of aging. Granted it is only -1 str, its way to soon I feel.

I like most of the changes that were implemented in v3.0, but this one seems to be one of the few that I believe was totally unnecessary. Sure it will be a reason for people to not keep playing one character, but I never saw a problem with this. Even still...everything balances out at 50. Most of the power class/race combos are the longer lived races anyway, so its not fair to cripple the poor giants and ogres! Its better when people stick to one character and put their hearts in it rather than having a handful of characters they rotate around, but I think this will just contribute to the lack of sincerity and variety in the game. =( I rarely see many of the larger races on at any given time of the day anymore...and I'm just making an assumption that this may be a possible reason.

I'd say, if you took it out, that'd be awesome. However, if you kept it...remove the aging offline feature because not everyone can play constantly.

I don't agree with the aging system at all. It's a game and I don't play it to go through the natural life of my character, I should hope I would die off before my character ever reaches "old" age. I don't play role playing games for realism either, that to me defeats the whole purpose of playing a role playing game. I play to be something that I can never be IRL, isn't that the point of playing a role playing game?

Some people like role playing NORMAL characters in a supernatural situation. I like playing supernatural characters in a supernatural situation, if that makes sense. I suppose I like supernatural in a supernatural setting.

I will get old and I will die(already happening) which is exactly why I don't want to play a character who gets old. And do characters ever die off if you play them long enough? Such as, if I never got killed, and I played so much that my character went through a long aging process, would my character ever naturally die? If he never actually died from "old" age in the game, what's the point of even having the system? To punish players for playing too much? That's what it seems like. Not saying that is the reason, because it's obvious the reason is to give it more realism or what?

I also agree that there should be a reward for playing a character for a long time instead of a penalty. But from what was mentioned in the earlier pages, Brehens is going to add some bonuses for those melee types. So I guess we'll have to be patient and see.

The concept of aging was created only in part to enhance RP. A major part of it was also to promote character turn over.

If you think about this it does make sense, If nortak was still around he would not be NEARLY as scary as when he was 20 :) But all the same I agree age is a good idea, without it there would have to be pwipes routinely

You have yet to answer my question' date=' does old age kill a character off? If I play a character or have him idle/around enough to keep him around, will old age basically "delete" my character?[/quote']

No, never.

We've had 200 year old humans before.
