Languages

The Forsaken

Actually I think it would be amazing no matter the size. It would make comprehend languages more viable. You could choose upon creation whether you only wish to be able to speak one or the other. If you choose your Racial language only those of the same race may understand you unless you have comprehend languages and even if you don't have your racial language you can still understand it because perhaps someone in your family spoke it long ago thus you know what they're saying but perhaps not quite be able to speak it yourself. I think it'd add to the games RP. I wouldn't say it would be high priority but it would be interesting considering in the Sea Elven Cay they speak another language but if you're an Elf or have Comprehend Languages up you'll understand it. I like that touch to it.

If this was implemented, I think it would be best for coomon to be universal (since every culture has contact with the outside world). Their racial language would be at 100%, and common at 75% so as not to impede communication, but still allow for priveledges conversations.

I was about to say the same thing.

I tossed this idea out YEARS ago. Why else does comprehend language exist? I think it would be fantastic fun to be able to have private conversation. I think it would be even more awesome to slowly piece together another language. Like how we all know sausabru is poison, and yucandusbar (sp) is fireball etc. I think it would be scwheeet

I certainly understand ones reason for wanting more distinct languages but i for one don't believe its needed or would be anything more than a hindrance. I've always appreciated a players effort in constructing his or her own speech with the rp of their individual characters, but at the same time have hated ogres drunk like speech forced upon players. Simply stated i believe this should lay on the shoulders of players to decide how their charcters talk not in game code.

I personally really like this idea. My thoughts are to have different languages "learnable". So the base language skill would be common, so that everyone can talk to each other and possibly could be hard coded to have slight nuances similar to ogres like v's that are said like p's or something like that. Then through some means as your exposure to other languages increases you can learn to understand and speak in that tongue. Then set it up as a toggle-able skill which defaults to common and can switch to the various languages you have learned. Make it INT based, on how many languages the different races can learn, outside of their racial and common.
