I'm loving my Staff Templar. Why not just do that Inscribed? More of an aesthetics reason?

I have enough Str to wear Marauder armor if I want. And have the base access to int and AOE passives to make sweep a really effective skill. With the auras it just adds to how easy it is to take down huge groups. The only problem I've had so far with the class is that ranged mobs run away like pansies.

Can you post your build?

So take a close look @ my recent reasoning.

I wanted to get a nice strong end game character together and started to think "What makes a strong character?" Well so far to me it seems that Defense > Offense.

So I started out wondering how MUCH defense. Well if it is 2x More important then offense, why not make it a 75%/25% Mix.

Now, What defense... Well to me this was easy. Evasion + Life. The reasoning behind this was that armor naturally comes with more evasion then armor. So if I stack evasion and grab Iron Reflexes then I can have a higher armor rating then if I went pure armor. Life.. well it's life.. without it your dead.

So considering a 100 Point Build is not that far fetched in reaching, I went with a 75 Point Defense / 25 Point Offense build.

Here is the 75 Points into Defense.

75 Point Defense Skill Tree

It comes together well I do believe - As you can see I started in the ranger tree because the over all defense numbers were easier to obtain in the 75 Point Limit. Obviously as I put together an offense it's possible SMALL changes may occur.

+240 Dex

+40 Str

+20 Int

+214% Life

+188 Evasion

+4% Evasion Per Frenzy Orb

+2 Max Frenzy Orbs

+18% Frenzy Duration

+40% Evasion Rating & Armor

All Evasion Turned into Armor

So, PLEASE tell me what you think.

Just hit act 3. Time to crash.

Awendris. I think a 50/50 split would be better. Honestly I'm specced FULL offense/stats except for 16% life at level 32. And I have no problems staying alive provided I keep up with my gear (not that hard). So that's just some thought.

Of course. If you're running around in a full party all the time that's different. I'm just doing things solo. On harder difficulties my views might change. And hardcore I'd do your build.

Awendris, what kind of weapons do you plan to use? (I made a build modification to yours that I think would be quite nice with bows).

Ranged or melee?

Bows, one handed with a shield, two handed ones?

Btw, you've gotten the point of the game quite well it seems. It's not that defence > offence, it's just that offence is quite easy to get with the gem skills. There are builds that allow you to kill Vaal in 2 strikes on last difficulty, but then there are mobs that reflect damage and you are dead the second you hit them, so Glass cannon build doesn't really work here.

As with advancement, I've killed the last boss in Act 3 and am now at the start of second difficulty.

Its nice to see a game developed down the road from me has such a wide scope of player who seem to be quite happy with the game.

I have yet to play it myself, and to be honest I dont think I'll bother. I leave in 2 weeks for a round the world trip so time isnt exactly on my side.

Here is my marauder build:

340 Strength

84 Dex

64 Int

Pros:

-----

My hits can't be evaded (Huge pro for Marauder - allows me to ignore Dex)

Spend life instead of mana for skills (Huge pro, allows me to ignore Int)

Can't be stunned (Huge pro)

Ignore all movement penalties from armor (Small pro, gives me about 8-10% move movement speed)

All evasion rating turned into armor (Small pro)

2% of My physical damage is leeched back as life

243% Increased life

5.2% (+1.2% at max charges) of Life regen per second

221% Increased armor (with added 64% Increased evasion rating)

//64% Increased evasion (That stat goes into my armor rating)

10% Increased movement speed

30% Reduced damage from critical strikes

+60 Life (Also note that I get +5HP for every 10 str I have, which means I have 170 added on top of those)

66% to all Resistance

+15% to Fire and Lightning resistances

+5% to MAX resistances

+3 Endurance charge (Makes MAX of 6 - allowing me to absorb 30% of the incoming damage)

36% Increased endurance charge duration (Endurance charges last 13.6 seconds, instead of 10)

+0.2% Life regen per endurance charge (Already added to life regen)

15% Increased attack speed

50% Increased elemental damage (Quite huge, since most of the damage we deal is elemental)

Cons:

-----

I can't crit (Huge con, traded for undodgeable attacks)

No mana (Huge con, can't use some extremely useful auras, traded for spend life instead of mana for skills)

Can't evade attacks (Not a big deal and allows me to convert all my evasion rating into armor anyway, traded for can't be stunned)

I still haven't decided whether to use one handed + shield or two handed weapons, but I will most probably go with two handed weapons.

I am specced almost exclusively for sword and DW offense (attack speed/damage) and despite some deaths due to... over aggression, I am quite able to carve through most enemies up to and through the solaris temple. I almost believe it is more important to leave yourself a way out and properly time potion consumption. I was wearing a mixed bag of pieces, including a level 14 rare chest piece, until I was actually on the 2nd floor of the Solaris temple where I acquired a better suited chest.

If someone was looking to trade on the US default league, I have a weapon elemental damage support gem and an elemental proliferation support gem that do not suit my physical dw duelist. I am seeking Red and Green linked armor/evasion pieces or faster attacks support gem. I'd even be willing to part with them for proper jewelry.

Another issue I have with the game, though it is likely intentional, is that most of the unique items seem poorly suited to my particular build. It seems I will have to hunt down those rare R/G tri linked rapiers (I prefer the critical multiplier to the accuracy of standard swords) and duelist armors. If any of you guys find those sort of pieces and have the space, save them for me and I am sure we can work out some sort of deal. If I find any uniques that scream any of your builds, I will be sure to reserve them.

Hahaha, you kidding me bro? :D

[edit] And a small question - do wand projectiles count as projectiles or as spells?

Not even in the slightest. Outside of unique jewelry (which you can actually find stronger rare jewelry if you get a double mod in particular stats) very few unique items benefit a DW duelist. All 1 of the unique rapiers forces you to 2h it, Tipua Kaikohuru. There is factually 1 Armor/Evasion unique chest armor, which is nice. Compared to Diablo 2, which is what I directly compare this to considering the glaring similarities, there are essentially no uniques where diablo 2 had literally 1 unique of every single item type and 2 of a couple. I think their point was to make the uniques situational at best. I mean... most of the uniques are fairly low leveled. Hopefully with future patches they expand the unique selection.

Wand projectiles do count as projectiles, spells are strictly skill gems that explicitly say spell. However since wand autoattacks cannot be supported, support gems like lesser multiple projectiles will not modify them. Several skill gems create projectiles which are modified by said support gems.

In higher difficulties things change though :(

As far as weapon choice, I have not decided yet. I like claws for for the leech, I like bows for the range but some mobs are fast and you dont get a chance to stay ranged long haha.
