An interesting question for you all...

Liadon Xiloscient

What is it about MUDing, especially here at Aabahran which appeals to you to play here as often as you do? I know when RL isn't in my way I like to pop into the world of the Forsaken?

(haven't done it only once... my RL life is STUPID BUSY! Who knew starting a business would be so involving? LuLz)

Anyways, as I understand MUDs have been around for a long while. Some of you (though i feel most of you...) have played since you learned about them. What has kept you so interested?

I've been thinking; a lot of you know your way around the world like your own house, and when creating a character most of you have a generally good idea of what sort of character you will play from the very beginning. Some, even, have "mastered" a character type and when compared to others, are un-matched.

Of course I believe that newbies like me strollin' along will get creamed over and over simply because I have not invested as much into the hobby, and I don't really plan on it either...

However, there no matter how badly I'll PK I've always been drawn back into the world. Perhaps I may always be cursed to play horrible PKable Healer-Types but for me? That's fun. The story telling is incredible and with some of you, I almost wish... for a second... to live in this world that we've / you've created. Unarguably despite all the frustrations I've had, Liadon Xiloscient the Priestess will always be my most cherished character. Starting off as an adventurer and meeting Pwint. I absolutely fell in love with this character, then multiple run-ins with the followers of Anume and almost being seduced to the powers of evil every time.

(in the end Liadon gave-up and become Anume's slave.)

The list goes on and on as to why I fell in love with Aabahran and refuse to explore other MUDs and to remain faithfully... yours. In a matter of speaking.

I dunno... I guess more than anything I'm just curious as to what makes this realm so great to you? Feel free to rant and rave about whatever, and give praise to even the silliest of things.

I like to be a part of a story. I find that the players here are fantastic at weaving plots and characters, and it intrigues me. Being bad at PK myself, I feel your frustration there, but it still doesn't push me away from the game for very long. It's just too interesting to see what others have crafted for themselves.

I think what I like about it is that it gives me a truly open-ended outlet. If I want to vent anger, I can play a violent berserker. I can play the knight in shining armor. I can love and hate in ways that are deemed unacceptable by society. Instead of just becoming a writer or something, I am not solely responsible for burden of creation either. I can draw on the strengths of all the players and immortals to create an engaging and engrossing drama.

I've also rarely felt the same rush of adrenaline that I do from a closely contested PK (closely as in I don't get 3 rounded because I forget to buff properly). The only thing I've felt comparable is competitive (e.g ranked play in LoL) play in other games, which I tend to come up short and end up bitter in or get drug down by the misplays of my teammates despite an individually successful display. FL pks (I don't consider getting my face smashed in instantly a PK) are right up there with the ranked game of League Twinblades and I played where he literally won the game with a post humous final shot on the nexus. I was literally sweating and SCREAMED in victory when you took that victory down hombre. I believe you saw that game Enethier. If you don't recall, it was Outbreak's first match. To sum it up, we were consistently behind and won a crucial exchange to slightly catch up. Twinblades managed to sneak behind their lines after we lost another exchange (with only Twinblades on Miss Fortune and myself as Sona alive). They were foolish enough to waste some time taking down an extra inhibitor turret and inhib before diving me under the nexus turrets and smashing me out. That little window of time plus the second or two it took to kill me put Twinblades in a position to smash an inhib and work on their nexus. Their Graves was running back the whole time he was working and killed TB with his ult, but the winning shot was already in the air and TB snatched a victory from the jaws of a certain defeat! I woke up the whole house... I was in trouble... FL gives me that feeling on a far more regular basis.
