The problem with black and white statements tends to be that they are inaccurate, mostly due to having an emotionally invested opinion on the matter. The character you play should generally be more upset about death than about losing equipment. What's a bigger deal, finding your corpse empty, or being killed?

Calling it trashy is pretty silly. Many times it doesn't have anything to do with OOC knowledge. Character knowledge: "I just killed somebody. They have better equipment than I do. I'm going to take it." Worse equipment? "I should destroy it. No telling who will find it and potentially use it against me."

Not all characters think like that, and there may be other reasons behind them looting/saccing. What's really trashy, though, is jumping to conclusions about the person behind a character, especially involving their morality. That's just plain rude and disrespectful to people you may not even know.

Like when you kill someone and only take the leggings or something, and they are like "Really? Your a thief and i'm going to get you" or "did you really need that?"... Dude, your dead, and now I am totally going to sac your stuff because you degraded both of our characters. Not to mention dead people shouldn't be talking to alive people anyway. If death won't shut you up...

Life should be considered more precious and more worthy of comment than equipment.

Quick fix: Moderate characters = 60 lives

Hardcore characters = 15 lives.

Ghosted people talk in ghost-speak.

15 lives is way too few with the way the game currently runs. Those who hardly ever die well love it. For the rest, it will create a bigger "caste system" of newbies vs elites. It takes too long to get to fifty to only have 15 lives.

Less than sixty as ruthless? I can see that. With an easier time getting con quests for those who want em.

I have been pretty disappointed a number of times over the years by powerless lack of carrying if they die to me in pk, but 15 lives isn't the answer. I think better rp and more powerful rp incentives/rules is a better way.

The reason people value equipment more

is because you spend a huge % of your game time gathering it.

Just to have it ALL reset to nothing, or the risk there of, within seconds if you make one mistake.

This time to gain vs risk is WAY to high. It is why EQ drives the game, and not lives, or RP, for general play.

Do you need RP to compete? no, do you need all 60 lives to compete and play and have fun? no. What you DO need if you want to engage in the awesome pk that is FL is Equipment.

You cant chastise people or punish them for valuing something that the game puts a huge value on by its very design.

'Morlhach's ghost bemoans its situation in your general direction.'

+1 to your idea DemiTerracotta at being able to PK Morlhach.

Bemoaning is good. I also like rattling windows, causing chills, lamentation in the wind, and other hair-raising antics.

Each time you die you could be set to a different category of ghost speak: Poltergeist, Spook, Apparition, etc with its own unique qualities.

As to the lives thing... Several character thread on the main forum have characters leaving in the prime of their health. Some people will condie at 60 lives before these characters even die 5 times... so these characters are denied the chance to condie or to finish their character in a reasonable amount of time. Perhaps a 10 death lifespan should be selectable at character creation with no added benefits except perhaps when you die you get a gravestone somewhere, just as all characters who take it to condeath should. I know I would feel better condieing at ten then having to delete or just stop playing.

And as to being evil, the original topic of this thread... we have help files to guide us that are similar to traditional D&D alignments. Playng a believable Good is the real challenge IMHO.

Wouldn't you rather folks have the option? I for example play my characters all out balls to the wall. Usually fighting when I shouldn't, knee deep in enemies, and I can tell you my past well-known characters have all left with 1 - 2 lives remaining.

Had I only had 10 lives, Sepahoona would of never even began the work he did on the events he participated in. His altar was built when he had ~30 lives left.
