Sleeping Problems

Recommended Posts

I have them, and it's horrible. It seems to come and go in phases for months I will never be able to get to sleep until my body just basically shuts down, but then for a month or two I'm fine. It actually hurts to wake up often when I can't sleep. I'm just wonderin if any of you have any home recipies I could try before I try a quack.

What do you usually do during the day? I don't know your habits, but computer gaming isn't a physical activity. No, punching your monitor doesn't count. If you aren't getting enough exercise during the day, it does make it harder to sleep at night.

Pie, I have the same problems. Not much seems to help me on a regular basis, but if anything does, it's tea and milk. I use caffine free tea, obviously, put the tea bag in a half a glass of milk, then start boiling the water, once the water has boiled the milk has warmed up a little and the tea has started to spread into the milk a bit, then just add the water. Sometimes it works. Outside that, It's the typical can't sleep routine that I am sure you know, don't lay in bed, get up and do something, anything, I typically clean, but whatever it is just as long as you are not in bed, and out of your room is even better too.

Do as I do, lay in bed for hours staring at things in your room and wonder when sleep will set in. I find this to be a fun game when I'm in there wide awake. Look at your clock every so often and calculate how many hours of sleep you can get if you drift off then. It's fun, especially when you hit T-Minus two hours. That really gets the joy-joy feelings of sleep deprevation in an uproar.

A regular sleeping pattern helps, as does not eating before bed.

EDIT: Just thought I'd add, that what I said above would help with quite mild sleeping problems, but anything like you described there, I would definately recommend seeing the doc, and take any advice you get here with a pinch of salt, unless anyone can profess to being a medical expert.

I remember Melee used to have the same problem bad....his doc cut out all the caffeine from his diet...and told him to take benidril before bed. None of that worked for him, not suprising though he's crazy.

I'll post what my councilor gave me when I find it to help you sleep. If you actually do it, it does help. Though I just dont do i t too often unless I really really want to sleep. But usually I am like...

The easiest way to crash is a few easy steps.

Insert card into ATM

Withdraw 20 dollars

spend 15 on a case of beer, 2 on a funnel, 3 on a hose.

Attatch hose to funnel.

Pour beer INTO funnel

Drink out of tube

please repeat step 5 til you have reached a sleepy state. Then sleep.

From personal experience...

Don't drink anything with anything that could be even hinted at as a stimulant.

Don't watch TV. Don't listen to music. And don't under ANY circumstances go and MUD :P

It's always better to go to bed early and get up early enough that it's still dark out. It'll trick you into thinking you stayed up all night ;)

Pop sleeping pills. I've done it for the last 11 years to sleep, and it hasn't gotten old. Yeah, I've had those sleepless nights too, but sleeping pills work best. Melatonin pills? Never did work for me, felt tired for 2 minutes and then couldn't even get tired enough to sleep.

actually i asked my family doctor about this not to long ago.

As work has been busy and family life comes with its own stress inducing decisions and worries. I told him i didnt want to take some kind of medication as i personally hate taking pills.

Well he described a process that worked for him as he said he had the same issues in med school.

1, no food before bed

2, no tv right before you wish to try to sleep

3, make a point to begin the going to bed process an hour before you wish to sleep

4, guard this hour viciously, it is your hour..it is time to wind down, take on no more added stress from anyone. Read a book, or go through a routine that tells your brain that its time to wind down. Our doctor suggested something as simple as laying out your things for tomorrow. Physically putting your briefcase in another room, etc etc.

5, clear your mind....this is when it gets to sounding "zenish" but trust me its worked.

6, when you lay down imagine a place that calms you and do not let anything intrude on that image. It will be difficult at first but eventually your brain learns and will go through these steps on its own.

do NOT think about mudding!!! haha mudding is SUPER stressful fingers flying across the keyboard heck even when you get to where pkill doesnt make your heart leap from your throat you still get that adrenaline..you just deal with it better.

Remember, insomnia is NOT A MEDICAL CONDITION, its all psychological. Mental training can overcome the wide awake nights of staring at the ceiling till 3 am.

ps. of course bang the wall with the headboard sex with your wife doesnt hurt the going to sleep process either.
