Implementor Volgathras Posted October 19, 2013 Implementor Report Share Posted October 19, 2013 Also, Draconic. Draconian is a special language (telepathic). Celestial/Divine Divine is a language that everyone can understand, imm only at present. Interesting idea for cabal specific language like code. Imoutgoodbye
Is there going to be beast talk? I can see it already...beastiality in the Watcher hall with a green dragon.
Implementor Volgathras Posted October 19, 2013 Implementor Report Share Posted October 19, 2013 'Beastial' is for ferals and werebeasts. Use 'learn' to see a list of languages.
The Professor
any thoughts on turning letters to the language system? when writing a letter we could choose to scribe in a language we are fluent (100%)? (this might be going overboard... lol) depending on if the reader is fluent with the language... they would be able to read it... if familiar but not fluent they could make out some words while others appear like gibberish. it's just a thought, LOVING the languages! also, we could provide more language practices for those with higher intellect and fewer for those with a lower intellect ( or just leave it at those with higher intellect learn to master languages quicker) I was wondering about Draconian... if a person learns it and doesn't have telepathy... would that mean they would be able to understand telepathy in draconian but never be able to use it? or does it also give them telepathy? Implementor Volgathras Posted October 19, 2013 Implementor Report Share Posted October 19, 2013 Re letters: There are some new OLC commands that would make it so that object descriptions and the like may be effected by language proficiency. However, as for widespread letters I'm not sure. Our coders would have to commend on the possibility. Re Int and Language: At present higher intellect does effect how quickly you learn a language, as well as how difficult a language is to learn (differnt languages have different difficulty ratings). I wouldn't be opposed to adding a perk that would improve or change this somehow, when we're sure the language system is ironed out sufficiently. Re Telepathic Language: I only tested it once, but I believe it will give you telepathy when speaking that language, not when speaking common for instance. However, this will be rare - people who speak telepathic languages will either already be telepathic or be a dragon by and large.
The Professor
interesting... makes me think we might have q-race Dragon in the future! thank you for answering all my questions, I appreciate it! I kind of like the idea of draconian providing a form telepathy. thanks Imm's!

Implementor Volgathras Posted October 19, 2013 Implementor Report Share Posted October 19, 2013 If you speak graughl there shouldn't be any garble, as far as I'm aware. Ogre common hasn't changed.
The Professor
I've just noticed if you use a mote as an ogre when you speak, it actually gets rid of the garble... does using motes with languages work, or is the language just common? from what I've seen it seems to remain common. The Professor
any chance that Telepathy could become something toggled on/off by races that learned telepathy but can naturally speak?
Implementor Volgathras Posted October 19, 2013 Implementor Report Share Posted October 19, 2013 The natural telepathy races use telepathy out of necessary, most cases. I.e. illithids have a mouth full of hentai rape, and thus have difficulty reciting shakespear.
The Professor
I could see where Ilithids would have an issue, but I was thinking more along the lines of races that can speak normally and learn telepathy. e.g. Elven Psionicist or someone that gained telepathy through rp. as it is, a regular race that learns to communicate with their mind... completely forgets how to speak with their mouth. which is fine, I am just wondering if it would be possible for them to have both. lol'd for that vivid picture you painted... f0xx
I would very much appreciate it, if after one logs in, the default language he speaks does not change and is left as the one he was speaking when he logged out. As it is now, when you log in, the language is defaulted to your native language.
Implementor Anume Posted October 19, 2013 Implementor Report Share Posted October 19, 2013 Yes, we're on that. Common should be default.

Ayroduth
Also' date=' I am curious how does this change interact with a certain syndi skill...[/quote'] You should have to learn the languages. Such skill would still work, you just wont understand anything. In fact, I think with the addition of languages it is all perfect now. Should not just be able to hear all.
The Professor
completely agree with Ayroduth on this one... and I would add that telepathy shouldn't be heard unless you're a Syndi with telepathy.
Mister E
I disagree. Without going into detail it is not exactly a direct link. The skill works through intermediaries who for all intensive purposes should be multilingual and then report their findings in whatever tongue the syndicate knows best. The Professor
well, not every spy is going to be able to speak every language... nor should they have photographic memories to be able to repeat the proper phonetics for a translation. I think it's a great and fun Syndi ability... it's only a minor inconvenience to the Syndi in question... especially since he/she CAN learn those languages if he/she is willing to put in the effort. *shrug*
