Imoutgoodbye
My first impulse was to lean towards a FG Gladiator Warmaster, cut out the consumable portion of the learning experience and focus solely on the PK/equipment gathering. My second impulse was a stone giant ranger with the pets. My third impulse was a cleric of some kind, elf or drow, with high mana. Then I thought about how easy of a time I seemed to have with a dwarf blademaster. Thoughts?
Enethier
Ninja and feral archer are very good at gathering EQ, able to solo most of the high-level areas if you're careful. If you absolutely want to stick to one of the above, I would go with the dwarf blm. I find that we tend to do better with classes that fit our style. Don't try to force something that doesn't fit well with you. If you feel like a natural with a race/class, stick with it. /end 2 cents
f0xx
Gladiators imho are by far the best EQ gathering class, due to "retreat" ability and independence from sanctuary. I've had the best explorations with gladiator blademasters. Counter is extremely useful when fighting strong mobs too. Magic resistance = op. Barbarians can now also use the glimmering staff. Imoutgoodbye
Anything survivable in PK: hide skills/communer Best way to get EQ is to not lose it often. I don't have an equipment list like most people. I also don't know where most equipment comes from. I don't know how to get these things on my own (I've been invited six times in 12 years at 50 to go on equipment hunts and the last time was just me and one other person). I need to learn all this. I need to compile and sort by classes. There is much work to be done.

Halfling is nice, I enjoyed avian better, and half-elf best.(remember the educated perk it will matter) Play neutral and challenge every WM you see. This will give you powerful friends to go hunting for said equipment, and most of them will let you identify it even if they want it. Just another lesson from the OLD man. L-A
I don't have an equipment list like most people. I also don't know where most equipment comes from. I don't know how to get these things on my own (I've been invited six times in 12 years at 50 to go on equipment hunts and the last time was just me and one other person). I need to learn all this. I need to compile and sort by classes. There is much work to be done. Something with the following spells: 1) Identify or scrolls skill; 2) Locate item. To find items you can locate, or, just form groups and ask where items are. People will often tell you the area and/or mob. From there, you can explore the area and do 'where ' to find the exact room. Also, check the webpage - there is a lot of eq posted there. As for class - pick something you think is cool or want to find something out about. You can find groups on any class but giving yourself a reason to play makes it a great deal more fun. If you want melee power and the identify spell (via scrolls) do a DK or paladin. The only downside is opposite align people will come your way. Same with clerics. A neutral (avian so you don't worry about fly?) battlemage would make a lot of friends (everyone melee wants haste when grouping) if you're non-aggro. You can slow for faster healing and have a lot of melee defence. Pick the faster ranking perks, only train your defenses and just rank whenever you can. This will get you access to the higher areas (and ids) sooner which is what you want on such a character. L-A PS - try not to be tempted by melee's with no way to ID items if getting an eq list is your main goal.
Mister E
And don't be afraid to explore, even alone! I learned the layout of most of the difficult areas just by wandering around and not caring if I died. I must say I am a bit shocked that in 12 years you don't know where most stuff comes from. What the heck have you been doing?!?
Imoutgoodbye
I must say I am a bit shocked that in 12 years you don't know where most stuff comes from. What the heck have you been doing?!? Deleting. Deleting. Deleting. Deleting again. Literally, I'd delete after a single one sided PK. I'd delete after a full loot. I'd delete after a half loot. Delete if I lost the two awesome items someone just gave to me. This went on until, oh, my half-elf warrior who turned Crusader. Thus, I cannot equip a level 50 character. That is all. Mister E
I think a neutral herald is a really good idea then. You will have no enemies (except the illiterate) and you can join any group and go anywhere. I'd suggest a battlemage, or a ranger as both are very strong solo classes. Deykari
I played a Gnome Battlemage AAAGES ago purely with the intention of finding and identifying equipment. I fashioned myself as Brambus' apprentice who was charged with documenting the properties of Aabahran's many artifacts, sent notes out that I would help -anybody- get -anything- with my only want being to identify whatever we came across and to learn areas. Like L-A said, everyone wants a BMG in their party and once people knew what I was about I was invited to trips all the time because people knew I didn't want to keep any of the loot. I didn't care about PK, didn't care about cabals, just did what needed to be done in order to learn areas and items. Worked a treat. Dey
