Deykari
To go a different route, for your first character I'd always recommend playing something you like the sound of, however hard it can be. If you find it fun, you're much more likely to condie or stick it out longer. I do not enjoy playing clerics at all, and never have pinned one, even though they are good for learning with. There is something to take away with any class and you can learn a great deal with any class, even if it wont always be about EQ (identifying) or whatever. Fiere
I'm with Dey. First character for me was a zerk, second a thief, neither of which was very survivable (well, maybe the thief, but you make lots of enemies). Had a blast.
Magick
clerics are PERFECT for beginners' date=' all jokes aside, honestly.[/quote'] Wrong. ADVENTURERS are perfect for beginners. That's why they were made. To learn the most important thing in the game. Layout. All without having to worry about PK. Edit: Oh yes, they get Identify, create food/spring, sanctuary, all much like the cleric. Only clerics don't get the PK shield.
