mya
I'm looking for a Book or Novel to read. It should be a D&D or Pathfinder themed novel. And it should have an Evil cleric character and show his point of view. Better yet if he is part of the "Party". He should not be a chaotic murderer. Anyone of you knows something like this? I already read the 3 books of the The Chronicles Trilogy. ( Dragons of Autumn Twilight , Dragons of Winter Night , Dragons of Spring Dawning). I don't like good clerics, cause they are mostly heal-bots, who are always "special snowflakes". Like Goldmoon. I wish to read something where the character is more humane, even if he murders. And with somewhat realistic motivations. Like Work/Duty, power, vengeance. Not Paladinesque stuff. And absolutely not random chaotic murdering or full blown insanity. So it's mostly a lawful evil cleric, perhaps a true neutral one. Good examples of this kind of character would be Red Mantle in the Order of the stick comics, or the evil guy in the Hellboy movie. Strangely Durkon in the Oots comic while good still falls into this category as he is mainly doing stuff for duty.

f0xx
[edit] I didn't read the second part of your post about the random chaotic murdering. Perhaps my suggestion is not the best.
The-Nameless
War of the spider queen focuses on Drow clerics, and their matriarchal interactions. It is also 6 books. A very good read as well.
mya
Hum ... not to keen on it. Half-demons, Clerics that can't cast due to Lloth thing. It doesn't sound that great. Does it suffer from "special snowflake" characters? That half-demon son of the matriarch looks a bit strange. Does anyone of the "adventuring parties" is actually a cleric that casts? Healing doesn't count.
Imoutgoodbye
The Cleric Quintet. The aspect you're looking for is within the evolution of Kierkan Rufo, but for the most part, the imp Druzil holds an interesting aspect. Kierkan IS a cleric, though, he's mostly a pawn for the first three or four books (five part series). Cadderly is good for a laugh if you don't like good clerics. It's one of R.A. Salvatore's finer works and the characters around the main character are for more interesting. Pikel, anyone?
mya
I saw the Cleric Quintet on my initial google search, but dismissed it because according to the descriptions: main guy suffers from being a healer being special snowflake that doesn't fight being special snowflake that when fights uses a yoyo. But you say the series is good for the Kierkan Rufo. I appreciate all ideas. Keep them coming.
The-Nameless
You could also read more into the Krynn series with Caramon, and Raistlin. Raistlin gets heavily involved with a good cleric.

The-Nameless
Read Game of Thrones. There is a cleric in that. She is scary, and a ginger.

Raistlin gets heavily involved with a good cleric.[/quote'] Does he fights? Or does he hugs bunnies, gives sermons and cures wounds? For me a Cleric must wield at least a mace or other sort of decent weapon. Diplomacy or evil minions should be main way of proceeding, with a big mace to the head when the former fail. Like this guy Verminard: http://youtu.be/0reHLHGyQnM?t=1h18m45s Right before the "deus-ex machina" kills him.
The-Nameless
Verminaard, leader of the dragonarmies of Takhisis, was killed by Caramon, Raistlin, Sturm, Tika, and Tasslehoff. Verminaard, as explained in a forgotten bio in a 2.0 D&D book, was a fighter/cleric. Primarily he was a fighter, gifted with spells from the dark lady as a reward for his service. Imoutgoodbye
As far as wizards go, Raistlin's pretty damn dark and tormented. Soul Forge gave me chills. Even Lord Soth didn't want a piece. Waited for Raistlin to be in the abyss before making his move on the Tower.
The-Nameless
Well Raistlin was not dark, and twisted. That came after his Test in the High Tower where Fistandauntilis imparted some of his soul into Raistlin, giving him the Hourglass eyes. That took away what little conscience that Raistlin had, letting him wear the black robes. Raistlin was actually a caring, and very sensitive young man, who nearly died in his test, making him incredibly weak. To compensate for that his magical power was something of legends. Then Fistandauntilis saw that, and combined his vast knowledge, with Raistlin's potential to create what we now know as "raist". Raistlin was eventually, with the aid of a goodie cleric, able to challenge Takhisis for godhood, and in one reality (can be read in the father of all, and nothing storyline) actually ascended to godhood. P_body
What in the world is all of this? Totally new stuff to me. Looks like it came from the late 70s or 80s. What are all these books and story arcs?
The-Nameless
The one I am referring to can be seen in: Time of Twins, Test of Twins, War of Twins. This shows Caramon, and Raistlin's journey, and them going back in time to before the cataclysm, as well as a deeper explanation of raistlin, and his deep black spellbook he coverts. As well as his treasured staff.

The-Nameless
Also the War of Souls series is pretty fantastic. In a world where the gods have seemingly vanished, and the world is in chaos. One girl, Mina, has been chosen as an Avatar (read cleric) of the one true god. Throughout the series you see her battles, and amazing feats of divine strength (including killing the biggest, meanest, oldest dragon to have ever walked on Ansalon, Malystryx). If you are looking for a badass cleric, look no further. Also the War of Souls is generally a good read as well.

P_body
Okay, so where am I supposed to START in this confounded plethora of fantastical literature?
The-Nameless
It depends on what you want. War of the spider queen is a stand alone. There is also a massive series based on Drizz't, which are all fairly good reads, some are not so good. The War of Souls is also on Ansalon (Krynn) but takes place much later than the random books with Caramon, Sturm, Kitiara, Raistlin, Tasslehoff, and Tanis. There are also many stand alone 3-part series written that occur in the Ansalon setting.
P_body
Because I have limited time for fantasty reading, I imagine I'd like to start with the highest quality material that won't leave me with a lot of questions by the end of the first chapter that are answered in other books. I'm new to the whole thing, so I'd want something that explains most of the world, characters, magic system, etc. Awaiting suggestions.
The-Nameless
well nothing really explains the whole world. It is a tolkien level of creation. There are new things in literally all the books. I recommend reading anything by weis & hickman
