Consequences of Re-Imaging the Hard drive

I have zMUD loaded on a work laptop. Adobe reader isnt' working, and re-install etc. doesn't fix the issue. IT wants to re-image my hard drive, but that means I'll have to re-install all the programs, settings etc. I currently have on here (including zMUD). I don't wanna lose my settings etc. or have to use another one of the licenses I purchased (yes I actually bought zMUD).

If I just took the whole zMUD folder and moved it to a virtual drive for the re-image then moved it back, that won't work right? I'm gonna have to re-install zMUD etc.?

I know I can export my settings, but last time I tried that it was  a bit of a headache for some reason. Don't wanna go through all of that unnecessarily...:/

here is my suggestion. Pony up a few dollars, get a 32 gig flash drive, create an ISO of your chosen OS, load into onto that flash drive. Flash drives are more stable than most HDD systems, as they are solid state. This also means if your computer explodes, you have everything you need on a flash drive. I have 2 currently, one with win 7, one with win XP (old habits die hard bastards). A HDD failure is nothing to me, as I am carrying everything I want to keep on my keychain. Now, you should be able to export/import the Zmud FILES, but not the actual program, or config files associated with the program. I recommend individually saving what you want to a flash drive (see a recurring theme here?) Then installing zmud to the new load. Now, if you are straight imaging the drive over, there should really be no issues, as from a programming standpoint your files should not notice a difference as imaging a drive is literally making a reproduction of that drive, so it should be fine (OS dependant)

You make things WAY too complicated.

Firstly, what do you mean by "your settings"?

If that's your aliases, macros, triggers etc, you can easily export all of those on a text file and then re-load them once you've installed Zmud again.

Settings -> Export and then check everything you want to export.

Settings -> Import -> Script (ASCII) and then you browse and find the text file of your export, and then load it.

Simple as that.

Your export should look something like that. (although, this thread now looks messed up by the transition to the new forum too).

If by settings you mean all your logs and information, that's even more simple... they are just text data files after all. Copy them to the new location.

Lastly, I do have a cracked version of zmud, if you want it, just drop a me PM. Just make sure your e-mail accepts .exe files, I've found in the past that gmail doesn't seem to receive the files.

You just have to get an ISO maker. Then use your copy of windows to create an ISO (the ISO maker should walk you through it) and choose your flash drive as the destination to save. You know created a bootable copy of your OS onto a flash drive that you can, for all purposes, treat as a normal computer partition (c:,d: etc etc)
