Vikings on History Channel

yeah, Vikings is a great show! gives me a little taste of what I like before Game of Thrones comes back. :D

Who is your favorite Vikings character and why?
Lagertha is mine. She is fierce and capable, strong of mind and body and adheres to her own strict code of conduct. Overall she is a good person. She is quick to prove that women are no less than men, even though her culture would dictate otherwise. Family and Honor mean a great deal to her, so she does whatever she can to be the wife and mother that is expected of her... though, she would rather be the warrior, side by side, with her husband (even her children, someday) going into the fray. Of course, a close second would be Athelstan/Athalstan *sp aka Priest... but this is all about picking one, just one.

I like both shows, considerably, but I've got to go with GoT overall... the books always read "gritty" to me... so, I'm not opposed to the nudity/sex that HBO puts into it... there have been a few alterations from the books that I wasn't happy about, but off the top of my head I can't recall exactly what. Vikings is more - realistic - which adds another kind of oomph than the fantasy world of dragons and magic.

I know what you mean, at first Floki really stuck out like a sore thumb... but he grew on me and now I can see why I thought he was out of place... Floki is a "mad tactician" of sorts... and puts on airs or pretends to be oblivious.. however, when he and Ragnar talk among themselves in private, he becomes very serious and precise in his thinking. that poor actor, trying to act like someone that is always acting themselves... lol

I like Vikings WAY more than Game of Thrones.  Vikings is just like Game of Thrones, but without all the unnecessary nudity/sex.  HBO seems like they're trying WAY too hard to put boobs into GoT.

Hmmm.... you are making me download this now...

Vikings is one of the few really good shows on history channel now. I love it. Ragnar and Floki are my favorites.

In general I am disappointed with History channel though. It's kinda following the same progression as mtv. First mtv was all about music/music videos. Then slowly but surely popular tv/reality shows cropped up to the point where music is on mtv2. Now with History channel, you're getting all the shows that have no historical relevance at all- just stupid stuff (how is ax-men or whatever history? At least vikings is akin to historical fiction), and to watch history you have to go to H2.

I think compared to GoT the Vikings lack depth of character. The intricate intrigue, the development of a character is much better done by Martin, esp. in the books but it also is there in the TV show.

Vikings is a bit.. well.. flat, compared to that.
