Camo when you're in the forest. If using a sword hold the pointy end away from you.

Gimme a moment to get settled at work

Awkwardly... Its not letting me edit that post. Again.

Anyway:

A lot of tactics depend on your ranger path. Feel free to hit me up with extra details on each and specific tactics - I have played and dominated with all three (Im throwing out the dominated word because I was pleased with my level of success).

Archery:

You are a shaman that hits things more often then a warrior. Arrows are your friend, they will aid you in combat more then you can possibly imagine.

Always use rapid fire. I suggest finding a bow like the composit bow (super long range and amazing accuracy) or the bone bow (shorter ranger but shoots through doors). This means any accuracy lost from using rapid fire will not matter - with either of these bows you won't miss.

Aim at peoples pets - they don't have saves. Nothing more irritating then dealing with a plagued pet.. Once is plagued be careful of the spread to your own beasts when in combat but it should be a real pain in the ass for them.

Beastmaster:

More of a traditional ranger but your beasts can become battle shields because you can herb them. With some effective rescuing a mammoth can stand the front for a couple of rounds, saving quite a bit of health or direct spell damage to be healed later with group herb.

Camo is your friend with this ranger. Your beasts will hide with you so you are effectively a ranijer.

You can call more beasts, in more locations and they will return to you across distances if some of them get misplaced.

~~NOTE*: If you get a charmy pet with your cabal, you will have to drop one of your beasts. You are not a necromancer, you don't get a horde.

Tracker:

Throw: Throwing is bad ass. Throwing is high damage ranger staffs to the face. The best shield I ever found for throwing was the shield bought in the gnome village. They are cheap, they are heavy and they are non-rare. Load a backpack with a few - don't even bother about picking them up as this will give you a bit of micro lag. Hold five in your inventory and just throw throw throw.

You can also throw vuln weapons for huge damage if they manage to hit - however you might be having those sac'd at most times its harder to collect then just throwing the trusty old ranger staff (which still hurts like shit).

Track: You can track any RACE across the lands. You might get the spoor messed up but if you're half decent at chasing this can help follow a kill to the end.

Doublesheath: You can sheath more weapons and more importantly switch in combat instantly if things turn in your direction. EG:

Wearing a staff

throw shield

throw shield

**Oh I'm winning, he's lagged himself and my shields are crushing his skull

Draw dual weapons

throw shield

throw shield

wow he died way faster because its hard to defend against a whip

Or alternatively....

*Holyshieldburgers Im losing

Draw back to staff and be a pugill defence wizard.

Notes on all rangers:

Thunderstorm: Brutal as hell. All experienced players know about this and will avoid it at all costs - use this as a burst damage finisher - if someone is lagged by shieldthrow for example, throw one in (1 round lag) between throws for a sudden big boost of damage. (Note does not work indoors - is an area spell).

Insect Swarm: Master this. Horrible skill for your enemies but will often result in them fleeing until the effects wear off.

Fired Weapons: All rangers benefit from this skill, with a good bow (or whatever) and good knowledge of arrow choice you can be absolutely brutal (Mahn-tors rage anyone?)

Herb: Use this skill early. The count down is low, more then likely if you use this early you will be able to use it again before the end of combat. Rangers who rub themselves in poultices are happy rangers.

Beast-call: Learn what your beasts can do. They all advantages and disadvantages. Some combinations are more powerful in different situations.

If you want specific advice, tactics, armor choices, re-equiping techniques, insider information feel free to hit me up with a PM and send a cheque in the mail.

It's strange that.  This forum won't let you edit a post either after someone has already posted (fairly certain) and/or after X amount of time has passed and/or after you log out.  Irritating at best.

I wonder if anything can be done about that.
